Editorial Reviews

2011 debut album from the American Idol winner. Scotty has been well-received by the Country music industry since winning Season 10 of American Idol in May 2011, as evidenced by the fact that some of the best writers in country music wrote songs specifically for this project, which can be unheard of for a new artist. " The album is a collection of songs in the same straight-ahead Country style that captured the nation's hearts - and votes--on AI. It's the next step in a promising career that is already breaking records.

It's hard not to feel a little possessive about Scotty--we watched him, a remarkably mature artist for any age, branch out and really come into his own over the course of a competition that few thought that he could win. His passionate delivery, and his voice--deep as mahogany, sweet as honey--ultimately won everyone over. So how does he deliver on that promise? Wonderfully. Clear As Day is exactly what he needed to do. The songwriting is top notch, the instrumentation is good without being treacly. Lyrics are honest, and well suited for his position in life and his hopes and dreams. We've all heard Trouble with Girls by now, which boasts a gawky sincerity sung with complete conviction--a combination impossible to refuse. You Make That Look Good is a fun country rocker with a beat that will get you stomping across the floor, looking for where you might have left your Wranglers. I love how he refuses to compromise his own spirituality in the album ender--That Old King James--blending the sincerity of his faith with love of family. Ultimately, this is simply a really good country album, an album that builds on the roots of the music that Scotty loves. This music sounds so good with him because it is music that he has lived with, he has felt and meditated on, that he has experienced and yearned for with all the sincerity and heartfelt need that a teenager can bring--and that is saying something. In the process, he has created what is perhaps the best Idol debut in years. Scotty did us proud here, and if you are a fan of his marvelous voice, you won't be disappointed.

Amazon just delivered this CD to my door, so I played it. It hits every heart string I have.
Scotty captured my attention on American Idol. He is wholesome, genuine and true to himself.
His music comes from the heart and speaks to all those raised in small town America with family
values passed on from generations.
His music is relevant, honest and fresh. Give him an ear, you won't regret it.
I'm looking forward to more of this young artist.

I loved the first song I heard on the American Idol Show, I Love You This Much, but, I was delighted with the entire album, every song is a hit. You will not be disappointed!! Scotty McCreery's first album is sure to be just one of many, many more to come. This young man is extremely talanted.

To put it as succinctly as can be said, his first album 'Clear As Day' is exactly as as we would have imagined it. From his American Idol audition in January, to his spectacular 100 million + vote Idol win in May, to his triumphant American Idol Live Tour, to his stellar first album, Scotty McCreery has stayed 100% true to himself and his music. He has matured more in less than a year, than most artists do in a lifetime. Each individual song on this cd is fantastic in it's own right, however, collectively they have a profound cohesion made possible by Scotty's sincere and honest connection to each and every song. These songs are like extensions to the Scotty McCreery that millions of us fell in love with on Idol and if you are one of those that "got" what Scotty is about you will really love this superb first cd.
Congratulations Scotty!

I had my doubts with this cd. I think Scotty is an excellent singer but the combination of Interscope Records (which has little country experience) and the mediocre "I love you this big" effort had me worried. Another trap was the thought that with Scotty's young age he may become the Taylor Swift counterpart with songs appealing to teenaged listeners; or even assimilate into the new wave of outlaw or "redneck" country which promotes drinking, womanizing, and profane subjects.

To our luck, Scotty produced an album true to himself and true to the country genre. It walks the line between overproduced teen-oriented music, overly repetitive pop-country, and the hard living outlaw country currently being overproduced and popularized. The music choices are reminiscent of Josh Turner and Jason Michael Carroll without the heaviness of an older artist's production. It is produced as a believable country hit album with all the key country elements and definitely will be the first steps to Scotty's success.

Out of summertime: 7/10
Catchy tune with an upbeat and fun tone. Love which is passed is discussed without a melancholic tone

I love you this big: 5/10
Slightly better produced and edited on the CD than I have heard on the radio or the television. It still is a bit repetitive and juvenile-oriented but the people on American Idol did produce it afterall...

Clear as day: 8/10
Slower paced song than the previous two and more resembling of a Josh Turner song. A very good addition to the CD, meaningful lyrics and truly country themed song with less repetition and more story.

This is a realy good debut CD from Scotty. All of the songs are real country.
I watched and voted for him every week on Idol and really hoped he would win, because he is the best singer Idol has had in years. I have been a diehard country music fan since I was a kid and Scotty is the real thing for a 17 year old. He does the up-tempo and slow realy great and I am a fan and always will be 100%. Thanks Scotty for bringing back real country music.
