Presence of legendary tracks earns fourth star,
By Jay M "jay_mc" (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clear (Audio CD)
The 'creator' of techno, Juan Atkins, was a member of this early to mid 80's electro/funk/pop/rock group. It was here he developed his electro and techno rhythms which we would later see so decisively and beautifully on albums by him under monikers such as Model 500 and Infiniti. Cybotron was really a group caught between Atkins love of electronic rhythms and other members rock ambitions. The latter factions won the day, which proved bad news for Cybotron's existence! Atkins had left long before though. On this album his influence is well, clear. From the majestic 'R-9' to the stunning 'Alleys of your mind', Atkins trademark electro beats were much in evidence. But it was on the opening track 'Clear' where Atkins reached people. This track remains the most highly regarded electro track amongst Detroit Techno and House producers today. It started everything off. Nearly all of the tracks have vocals, they are Atkins's. There are one or two instrumentals, the final track 'El Salvador' being one of them. But be warned this album does contain some poor electro-rock tracks which defy recognition. But because this album contains work by Juan Atkins and some of the most legendary Detroit Electro tracks ever, I think we can overlook these shortcomings! It was the rest of the group, they loved rock, blame it on them!
