Presence of legendary tracks earns fourth star,
By Jay M "jay_mc" (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clear (Audio CD)
The 'creator' of techno, Juan Atkins, was a member of this early to mid 80's electro/funk/pop/rock group. It was here he developed his electro and techno rhythms which we would later see so decisively and beautifully on albums by him under monikers such as Model 500 and Infiniti. Cybotron was really a group caught between Atkins love of electronic rhythms and other members rock ambitions. The latter factions won the day, which proved bad news for Cybotron's existence! Atkins had left long before though. On this album his influence is well, clear. From the majestic 'R-9' to the stunning 'Alleys of your mind', Atkins trademark electro beats were much in evidence. But it was on the opening track 'Clear' where Atkins reached people. This track remains the most highly regarded electro track amongst Detroit Techno and House producers today. It started everything off. Nearly all of the tracks have vocals, they are Atkins's. There are one or two instrumentals, the final track 'El Salvador' being one of them. But be warned this album does contain some poor electro-rock tracks which defy recognition. But because this album contains work by Juan Atkins and some of the most legendary Detroit Electro tracks ever, I think we can overlook these shortcomings! It was the rest of the group, they loved rock, blame it on them!

Another reviewer wrote that he was unable to find the original remix of Cosmic Cars by Cybotron. I purchased this album, and also found that the album version is different than the original cosmic car remix (which I have since purchased).Sovereign_x2000@yahoo.com

The Album Clear marked a turning point in music here in Detroit.Cybotron and Juan Atkins are legends and are most influential to most house and techno artists here in Detroit. The Album definitely gets 10 stars from me because I still get requests to hear the song, Clear,Alleys of your mind, and Cosmic Raindance which is a definite favorite in the clubs around here.there will never be a techno or house full length album that will even touch the Clear album.

If you do not have this CD then you are sleeping. Buy this CD has the original hits like "Clear" & "Cosmic Cars". "Clear" is one of the first techno songs ever, Juan Aktins was way ahead of his time. This is a CD for the true B-Boy.

I remember the first time I heard Kraftwerk's Tans Europe Express waaay back in the day...hated it. Couldn't imagine that this was the future of dance music. Then later I heard Telephone operator...kinda dug that. Then I heard this guy named Mandre. Now I was gettin in to it. At the beginning of the 80's I listened to this guy on Detroit late night on WJLB named Mojo who was playin a lot of that Electric-boogaloo hiphop stuff. Cybotron was completely off da hook. He used to play "Clear", and we all knew something new was about to take off. All you Techno folks better pay your respects...this is where it started.
