First, I've tried other cfl bulbs I bought in a department store. The light emitted was more harsh than I would have preferred, which is in general one of the complaints of cfl bulbs. This one has a warmer, yellow glow to it, similar to a regular light bulb. (just be sure to have an open area in the shade or covering, cause they say it lasts longer if it's not in an enclosed area).

But the main reason why I quit using the other cfl bulb is I heard if it breaks, mercury vapor spills all over the area where the bulb was, and when it's vacuumed, the vacuum pushes the vapor around the house. That's bad for the environment in my personal area, not just generally bad for the environment like it would be if the bulb actually made it to the landfill in one piece.

That's what attracted me to this bulb. They use lead-free solder, glass, and pc board, and they use amalgam, a type of mercury bonded with other metals (that's what they make tooth fillings out of) and it doesn't have the bad effects of regular mercury.

It seems like this is one of the safest CFL bulbs I've found to put in my house, and it also has a nice lighting from it.
