We were putting our house up for sale and decided to purchase these stair carpet protectors. When I opened the package, the first thing I noticed was they smell terrible. I thought they will probably lose the smell after a couple hours or a day at the latest. Nope. The smell lasted for weeks until we took them up. They also would not stay on the stairs. They kept popping up and sliding off the stair. It became hazardous to walk down the stairs so we decided to take them up. Big waste of money.

been looking for these for over year and finally found them.... fast shipping sunday place order and had them tuesday afternoon on regular shipping...the smell is lil strong jus open all windows and in a day or 2 will be gone... takes some time to settle on the carpet might have corners that rise up jus walk it in and its worth the money best part its not a roll so dont have to measure and cut jus place and your done

We bought these protectors to replace older ones when we had the stairs recarpeted. These are much thicker than the others and in turn are not very malleable; they come off quite easily and can be a hazard when going down the stairs. In order to get them flexible enough to even stay on the carpeted steps I had to warm them in the oven for about 5 minutes at 175 degrees and try to reform them to grip on the lip of the step. My advice is to try a thinner and cheaper model.

I should have trusted the bad reviews. These carpet protectors are a safety hazard. They are very stiff and do not stay on the carpet very well. Not like the picture at all...They also smell really strange...not your typical vinyl/plastic type of smell...very bad odor. I would not recommend these at all.

I received the product and was impressed with the sturdiness of the stair treads. Unfortunately my stair carpeting was done in a waterfall technique which wouldn't allow me to use the stair treads because they are made to go on a stair that has the carpet tucked back to the riser.

Surprisingly, adequate stair carpet protectors are difficult to find. These seemed perfect at first. Heavy vinyl with "grippers" to stay in place. Problem was, the front end that supposedly curves over the stair front is way too narrow and doesn't conform. "Grippers" don't really work, especially on velvet cut carpet. Ends stick up which could be hazardous to stair walkers. I solved these problems somewhat, by using a heat gun to soften plastic and conform to stair end. It helped a bit. I also used long tacks to fasten vinyl at the ends.

Easy and quick shopping experience. The item was delivered in a couple of days. It was also packaged well. I have been looking for these everywhere and could not find them. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. It takes a couple of days for the smell to go away but other than that these are great. I would definitely recommend these!

Granted, I did not purchase these to protect carpeting. I purchased these to guard a windowsill and window from my dogs who tend to get whacky when the mailman drops mail in the slot. Their nails can chip paint and wood from the windowsill and can even scratch the window glass. I was looking for a solution and these work fabulously. The original idea was to have the nubby side up but when they arrived I found the lip fit perfectly under the windowsill and two side by side were the exact right length (luckily). I used two finishing nails for each just to keep them in place. The sill is protected and there is a slope of the protector against the glass that keeps the dogs from getting a foot hold.

How do they work as a carpet protector? Couldn't say. They are pretty stiff so can see how that might not work for some folks and they would need to be tacked down for sure.

As a windowsill protector....they work great!

I HAVE HAD THIS ITEM IN OUR OTHER HOUSE AND WERE GOOD, THESE STAIR MATS WERE SO STIFF, THEY WOULD NOT LAY FLAT AND THE ROUND PART TO GO OVER THE STAIRS WERE FLATTENED AND COULD NOT SHAPE THE STAIRS, I EVEN TRIED HOT WATER TO SOFTEN THE MATERIAL, IT WOULD JUST REMAIN STIFF AFTER THEY COOLED. I PURCHASE 12 SETS, AND ALL CANNOT BE USED :(

We received these in record time. I was worried about the smell that alot of the reviews talked about but there wasn't any smell. We did have to use a heat gun to soften the plastic to mold over our stairs, but they are working great. The nap on our carpet is very deep so we had to use little decorative carpet tacks to hold the stair protectors in place. Other than that we love them!
