3.0 out of 5 stars Good picture book
This book is a great reference book. Many detailed photos of the car up close and in action. If you are looking to do a detailed model or just like looking at the technology of the car this is a good book. Also good background of the people involved in the development of this groundbreaking, dominate F1 car.
However the weakness of the book is that it does...

4.0 out of 5 stars An informative, nostalgic work, April 23, 2008
This review is from: ClearView-F1, Williams FW14B, The Evolution and Development of the Williams Grand Prix Car 1991-1993 (Hardcover)
This book provides great quality prints, detailed reviews of events, in-depth technical information and a reason to kick back and remember the days when F1 was ruled by driving gods and cars so advanced they gave NASA genital envy. Worth a read if you're really in to the technical side of F1 or just this era of the sport.

If you are looking to do a detailed model or just like looking at the technology of the car this is a good book. Also good background of the people involved in the development of this groundbreaking, dominate F1 car.
However the weakness of the book is that it does neither the car nor the model the author build justice. I would have found the book much more interesting if there had been more detail in the design and development of the car over its champion chip years or if the author had gone into much more detail in the building of his fantastic model.

5.0 out of 5 stars ClearView review, February 18, 2008
This review is from: ClearView-F1, Williams FW14B, The Evolution and Development of the Williams Grand Prix Car 1991-1993 (Hardcover)
This book is unique, full of fascinating pictures of one of the most dominant F1 cars of all time. For engineers who have an idea about F1 cars this is a feast of information which you normally just don't find anywhere. The model made by one of the authors is breathtaking and its hard to differentiate between it and the real thing. This book is good value for money and perfect for F1 fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate tribute to a legendary race car., April 8, 2006

This review is from: ClearView-F1, Williams FW14B, The Evolution and Development of the Williams Grand Prix Car 1991-1993 (Hardcover)
Andy Mathews has made a name for himself as arguably the best modeler of Formula 1 model cars in the world. He meticulously crafts these works of art in stunning detail on an almost microscopic level. Every nut, bolt, washer, hose, wire, clamp and piece of tape in the original kit is replaced with Mathews' custom made photo etched, machined or scratch built part utilizing appropriate materials to replace plastic. His finished creations reportedly sell to collectors the world over for $20,000 or more. At that price they are still a bargain. This author has had the rare pleasure of seeing this master modelers work first hand and there are no words that can fully describe it. Awesome, breathtaking, beautiful and unbelievable are words that come to mind, but they are woefully inadequate. The models can take years to complete and when it comes to authenticity Andy leaves no stone unturned and takes no shortcuts. Besides his natural talent and fanatical devotion to perfection, his research enables him to correctly replicate the real cars in miniature. His reputation for quality has spread throughout the super-secret world of Formula 1 car constructors. This has enabled him to secure the cooperation of team owners who have let Andy take thousands of pictures of the cars from every conceivable angle. The average person is not allowed to even see what is under the body work of these remarkable racing machines, but Andy Mathews is routinely given the assistance of team engineers and unfettered access to every secret, proprietary part of the car. In ClearView-F1, Williams FW14B, Andy shares many of those details. The book is Mathews first foray into publishing and in it he has created an homage to one of the best and most fascinating Formula 1 machines of all time. The book tells the story of the famous Williams racing team, it's legendary drivers and the fantastic car. It is lavishly illustrated with many pictures of the car, both from professional photographers and from Mathews' own research photographs. The volume is completed with a selection of photos of Andy's own FW14B replica. The book is a must have for all Formula 1 fans. And for those who wish to build their own replicas of FW14B it is the preeminent research source.
