Crummy laser pointer -- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!,
By BCook (Springfield, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clearline CL2001 Pen Shaped Laser (Office Product)
The ClearLine model 2001 is a very lame laser pointer. First of all, it is only rated at 3.5mW, rather than the much more typical <5mW output power provided by other laser pointers. Secondly, it emits a 650nm red beam, which is far less bright than the "bright red" laser pointers that emit at 635nm. You wouldn't think that 15nm here or there would make much difference, but believe me, it does. On the same general topic, make sure to avoid any red laser pointer that emits at 670nm -- they are way too dark.Laser pointers are a lot of fun, but I *HIGHLY* recommend green laser pointers (emitting at 532nm)over red laser pointers. The human eye is something like 40 times more sensitive to the greenn wavelength than to red, and with a good green laser pointer, you can actually see the beam sslicing through the night sky, which is VERY cool. Unfortunately, green laser pointers are much more expensive than red laser pointers. If you want an inexpensive laser pointer, try to find a red pointer emitting at 635nm with an output power of no less than <5mW !!! Under no circumstances would I recommend the ClearLine model 2001 laser pointer, however. I bought it, and it is far, far less bright than any of the other red laser pointers I have. You can find much better red laser pointers in the same general price range with a little searching around.

Great Little Laser,

At the time I bought it, it was selling for 4.95. Even now it's listed at 9.95 it's a great deal. I have had several lasers but this one is great. It takes 2 aaa batteries which last a very long time.......much longer that I would have thought. The dot is bright red and is very simple to use. Unlike the other cheaper ones that take harder to find button batteries, the aaa ones are much easier to find and replace when needed.

I got this laser a few days ago, and after 3 days it has stoped working. It will go on every now and then, but it is pretty inconsistant. This may be due to the button or somthing inside. Also, amazon claims it has a range of 1,500 YARDS. but the package says 1,500 FEET. No big deal, since when it does work it is pretty bright. All in all, you get what you pay for, if you want one that will last, try the sharper immage ones, i bought one 5 years ago and it still works to this day.
