2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty bad pointer.
This pointer felt kind of cheap. It was not at all like the picture. It was a lot uglier.

The laser heads were useless and they weren't very good. The picture does not come out clearly, there are blurs around the image.

The laser dot was not very bright. It could have been brighter. It should be smaller also.

I bought a laser much thinner and shorter than this one...

I bought a laser much thinner and shorter than this one that uses smaller batteries in china. It meets the whatever health requirements and the dot is a lot brighter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pointer good, 42 picture heads disappointing, October 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Clearline CL2042 Compact Laser Pointer with 42 Heads (Office Product)
This laser pointer gives a good laser point for presentations up to 500 feet and is comparable to other laser pointers I have used. The pointer is compact (approximately 3 inches in length) and fits comfortably in your hand. The 42 picture heads, however, are not as impressive as advertised. The quality of the pictures in the heads (i.e. Zodiac signs, arrows, and symbols) is low. Instead of a single picture, there are faint duplicate images that blur the quality of projected image.

I could shine it very far and the diferent heads worked very well too. The only problem, which is not a very big problem, was that sometimes it stops working. When that happens, all you have to do is take the batteries out and then put them back in, and its not that hard to do once a week. I reccomend that anyone interested in a laser pointer should get this one because it works very well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, July 19, 2001

I wish you could give products a rating of 0. The shipping took forever, the heads are all totaly useless except for three, and the laser has allready started to crap out on me, and I have only had it for 3 days!!! It blinks alot, so obviously the circuitry inside it is bad. I would have been better off buying a flashlight, because they can shine farther.

This is an inexpensive and amusing toy. However, the mechanical design and is extremely shoddy. The activation button began mal-functioning immediately, making turning the pointer on a hit-or-miss proposition. While the button initially responded about 90% of the time, the response has now dropped to about 10%.

I will be replacing this pointer with another and not buy any product from this maker again.

The first day I got this little laser, I was disappointed; it just doesn't look as good when you see it as it does in the picture. The paint is cheap enamel, not smooth steel, as you might think from the photo.

Right away, the pointer started to have problems. I put in the two watch batteries (which, although small, will cost you a lot more in the long run than the AAA batteries used in most other laser pointers) to use it, and it wouldn't work. I thought it was broken. Then, a few minutes later, I tried again, and it worked. I've realized now that I have to hit it on the table a few times when I need to use it.

The main head doesn't screw on very tightly--there aren't enough screw threads to keep it attached. In the first week, the head fell off, and I haven't been able to find it since then, so now I have an even uglier little laser pointer.

On the up side, the laser beam is pretty strong. At night, I can put a spot on the buildings 100 or 200 feet away, but since I use my pointer almost every day in class, this one was a waste of money.

this laser pointer is so fun to fool around with. the 42 heads may not be the best quality but the normal dot head is the best. it reflects of mirrors and makes really kool effects. this may be really fun to play with but it is not a toy. i do not recommend this to anyone younger than at least 10! if it shines in your eye it can be dangerous. so please, if ur gonna play with it, be responsible with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, But a few ideas, October 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Clearline CL2042 Compact Laser Pointer with 42 Heads (Office Product)
I think this is a pretty good value for the money- I do agree that the batteries do not last very long, but this is the case with most pointers. The batteries (replacement) are fairly inexpensive, fortunately. Additionally, i do notice sometimes the laser acts funny- However there is a fix. You can try to screw on the back cap more, and the battery connection becomes more secure, so it works better when you do this

One idea for a future improvement would be to label the 42 heads. It is misleading, unless i label it myself, which one is what. It would not be a bad idea to try to fix another battery glitch- when the battery is low, the pointer begins to spread quite a bit over a distance- much more than when the battery is in good condition.

For its price, it is a good value. If you're looking for something savvy, i like the MiracleBeam Green laser pointer- it is just awesome!! you'll have to try one, but it is about 6x the price of the Clearline.
