5.0 out of 5 stars He's a "man of constant humor!", April 30, 2002
This review is from: Cledus Envy (Audio CD)
Cledus T. Judd has withstood the criticism, withstood the possible lawsuits, withstood the rejection of his peers..all to bring you twelve songs!

Well, okay, so it's more than twelve--this is, after all, his sixth CD--but you get the point; or maybe not. My point there doesn't really matter, because...next topic, shall we?

"Cledus Envy" is Cledus's best effort yet. It starts out with "Great Day To Be A Guy" (Travis Tritt's "Great Day To Be Alive), about what a guy would do with his wife out of the house for a few days. It's followed by the onion-filled "Breath," parody of Faith's "Breathe."

"Willie's Got A Big Deck" is an original. I can't tell you much about it, except that Willie's "deck" isn't the ONLY big thing he's got (I'd rate the song PG-13, as it just hints otherwise). "Let's Burn One" parodies the current controversy with downloading songs off the internet. "My Voice", a great one to see live, parodies Billy Gilman's "One Voice", as well as Billy himself. Basically, it's about puberty, and what will probably happen to Gilman all-too-soon.

"Man Of Constant Borrow" (Diamond Rio on harmonies!!!!) takes a few pokes at "Man of Constant Sorrow", and turns it into a hip-hop tune that'll leave you tappin' your toes and laughing out loud. "Let's Shoot Dove" takes a hunting spin on Tim and Faith's duet "Let's Make Love." "1/2", another good one live, shows us the flip side of Chad Brock's "Yes." "If George Strait Starts Dancin" covers the country-going-pop issue. "Just Another Day In Parodies" (the title of Cledus's last album, by the way) reviews his "life" in "Parody-land." It parodies Phil Vassar's "Just Another Day In Parodise," and the pianist himself can be heard on harmonies and at the end.

The final two tracks provide the greatest shock to Cledus fans--a good shock, mind you. "Leave You Laughin" (Vince Gill on harmonies, I believe) tells of Cledus's own emotions on what he does and why he does it--seriously. And "Don't Mess With America", a parody of Brooks and Dunn's "Only In America" talks of patriotism after 9-11. All I can say is: My sentiments exactly!

While he's not the most famous singer around, and certainly not the richest, Cledus T. Judd is back again with "Cledus Envy." It's an album full of humor that'll have you messing up these lyrics with the original ones. However, the minor confusion is worth the handful of money you'll pay. This is an album worth much more than the price listed. Seven stars.

This is a wonderful, lighthearted CD. Cledus really shows his talent not just with making the songs, but really making you see what he is singing about.

The surprisingly talented Cledus T. Judd returns with this new album that proves that country music can take a joke. Cledus pokes fun at today's hottest artists and songs, and even pays a lyrical tribute to Weird Al, through this compilation of hits.
And the genious part is, Cledus speaks for fans with his songs, that poke fun at cross-over artists with "If George Strait strts dancing" and man with "it's a great day to be alive.: This is a great album for any country fan, and anyone need of a good laugh!

5.0 out of 5 stars the Cledus parody attack is back, June 11, 2002
This review is from: Cledus Envy (Audio CD)
Cledus is back with yet another hilarious group of parodies. My favorites, which is tough to choose because I like each song so much, are "Great Day To Be A Guy" "Man of Constant Borrow" and "Let's Shoot Dove." I cannot stress enough how entertaining each song is though - there is not a song on this album that didnt make me roll on the floor with laughter! Whether you need something funny to brighten your day, or you just want to laugh you rear end off, this album is for you.

This is definitely an album worth listening to. If you like Cledus, this is classic Cledus. If you've never heard of Cledus, then this is worth checking out. He is the King of Country Parodies. Cledus Envy is Cledus at his best. This album has songs such as 'Don't Mess with America' (parody of 'Only in America ' by Brooks & Dunn) and 'Breath' (parody of 'Breathe' by Faith Hill). It also has hilarious original songs like 'Willie's Got a Big Deck'. This is one album that will keep you laughing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Weird Al of country music, July 18, 2002

Cledus. T Judd is the Weird Al of country music...and that's a great compliment. The Man is a pure genius and this CD proves it. The pains in your gut from laughing so hard after listening will be well worth it. This CD is also well worth the money too as you will want to listen to it over and over again. I meet Cledus at the Brooks and Dunn Neon Circus and must say he was a very nice person. It was great he took the time to sign some autographs.... Buy this CD ...YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!
