About the Author

Ann W. Kummer, PhD, CCC-SLP, ASHA-F has been director of the speech pathology department at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center since 1981. She also holds the faculty position of Field Service Professor, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She is invited to speak to state, national and international audiences on a regular basis and volunteers with Project Smile to provide free services in underserved parts of the world where children are born with cleft palate and craniofacial disorders

I have been teaching a graduate course in cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies for 20+ years. I am thrilled with Dr. Kummer's text. Students love it! It has a strong research base, but the information has excellent clinical application and is very readable with many case studies. Although it is geared toward speech-language pathologists, its multi-disciplinary orientation would make it a useful resource for any member of a cleft palate team. The information is complex enough to be useful to an experienced team member, yet the novice reader is given sufficient background information to be able to grow with the text. Exceptionally thorough and highly recommended!

This textbook was written very well. The author does a great job explaining different concepts in language that is easy to read and understand. Alongside the textbook, the author was my professor. She lectured directly in-sync with the book and provided wonderful visual and auditory examples that facilitated the learning process. Most textbooks are expensive but this one is worth the price.
