Product Description

Product Description

Foonf is Clek's no-compromise convertible child seat introducing revolutionary safety technology, innovative convenience features, and 100% recyclable materials. Foonf's REACT (Rapid Energy-Absorbing Crumple Technology) safety system is inspired by automotive safety technology. Like the crumple zones that protect us in the cars we drive, the crumple zone system integrated into every Foonf child seat absorbs energy from a collision preventing it from being transmitted to the child, reducing the forces on a forward-facing child in frontal collision by up to 40%. Foonf is also engineered with both advanced rear-facing and side-impact safety systems. In rear-facing mode, Foonf boasts a 45 pounds weight limit to keep children rear-facing longer and is designed with an anti-rebound bar, which improves stability and further protects the child's head. Foonf is also built on a rigid metal sub-structure with energy-absorbing foam layers in the sides and headrest to protect the child in a side-impact collision. Committed to designing convenience into car seats, Foonf is designed with Clek's signature rigid latch system, making proper forward-facing installation effortless. Rear-facing installation features a simple, click in angle-adjustment wedge with quick-access to standard latch connectors. Its narrow width profile of under 17" at its widest point (and 13" at the base) provides space that makes 3-across seating possible. The seat covers are made with crypton super fabrics, which provide permanent protection against stains, moisture and bacteria. Foonf also features side-bolster magnets to keep harnesses and buckles open while you place your child in the seat, and a recline feature for angle adjustment and comfort. After its 9-year expiration, Foonf lives on. The entire seat is 100% recyclable.

Clek combines safety for babies and small children with ease of use for parents in the Foonf Convertible Car Seat. Clek's patented REACT Safety System--along with an anti-rebound bar, rigid metal sub-structure, and energy-absorbing foam layers--helps to prevent injury to your child in the event of a collision. The seat fits children weighing 14 to 45 pounds in the rear-facing position, and weighing 20 to 65 pounds in the forward-facing position. Plus, the Foonf frame and materials are fully recyclable through Clek's recycling program, so it won't end up in a landfill once your child outgrows it.

REACT Technology Mimics the Automotive Crumple Zone

One of the most effective innovations in automotive safety is the crumple zone--the area of the vehicle that deforms and crumples upon impact, absorbing energy from the impact and preventing force from being transmitted to the vehicle's occupants. Foonf's Rapid Energy-Absorbing Crumple Technology (REACT) borrows that principle and institutes it in the car seat in forward-facing mode.

In a collision, the vehicle usually comes to an abrupt stop, but the occupants continue to move at the speed before impact. With the REACT safety system, an aluminum honeycomb crumples upon impact and allows the sudden change in momentum to occur over a longer period of time, resulting in less force transferred to the child. The REACT safety system reduces force transmitted to a forward-facing child in a frontal collision by up to 40 percent.*

Rear-Facing and Side-Impact Safety Systems

For optimal stability in the rear-facing position, Foonf includes an anti-rebound bar at the foot that braces against the car's backseat. In a collision, the bar limits rotation of the child seat, helping to protect your child's head from impact.

The Foonf has a rigid substructure of steel and magnesium within a series of EEP foam layers. The frame features a rigid metal substructure and a headrest with deep side wings lined with energy-absorbing foam, providing optimal protection in a side-impact collision.

Rigid-LATCH System and Slim Design for Easy, Secure Installation

Where other child seats can be difficult to install, Foonf uses a unique rigid-LATCH system ensuring proper installation all the time. The seat slides into place, and the Rigid-LATCH system securely grips the car's LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children).

The design also makes rear-facing installation easy in small cars by demanding less fore-aft space. Also, the car seat is slim--17 inches wide--making it possible to install three side by side if needed. Foonf is even approved for use in aircraft.

Thoughtful Features Enhance Comfort and Convenience

Foonf includes an easy-to-operate recline function, so you can adjust it to meet your little one's comfort needs. Parents will appreciate the Crypton Super Fabrics*, which are removable, easy to clean, and highly resistant to stains, moisture, and bacteria. Additionally, Foonf boasts integrated magnets that keep the harness open (when desired), making it easier to take your child in and out of the car seat.

Foonf is Recyclable

Foonf is entirely recyclable, so the materials won't end up in a landfill and harm the environment once your child has outgrown the seat. Clek has formed a partnership throughout North America to ensure the disassembly of seats and recycling of plastic, metal, foam, and fabric to be used in new products.

The Clek Foonf Convertible Car Seat is backed by a manufacturer's limited one-year warranty.

*Based on independent crash-testing of prototype Foonf convertible child seat using federal testing standard FMVSS (more severe than 97 percent of real-world crashes).

Weight: We like this seat because it's steel reinforced.

I pushed the rear seat as far back as possible which actually made lots of room in the front when this seat is installed.

Our son loves how high it sits up, and seems very comfortable in the seat.

Just to start off, I'll give you some background info on me.
I'm a mom to a little boy that just turned 4. I'm an RN at a Children's hospital. I am also a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. And my friends and coworkers have nick named me "The Car Seat Queen"... because I'm kind of obsessed with car seats. I've owned 15 for my one child because I like to try out new seats, and I always like to have several on hand in case I babysit or have to pick up a neice from school, etc.(A few of those are boosters for my older neices/nephews)
So when the Clek Foonf came out, I thought to myself.. I really want to play with that! But it was expensive.. and trying to justify ANOTHER carseat to the hubs... well... yeah. So I waited. And then my son outgrew his Britax Advocate rear facing. (Yes, my 4 year old is still rear facing... because it's 532% safer) And I finally had a great excuse to buy a Foonf. YAY!

Things I LOVE about this seat.
It rearfaces to 50 lbs. (I think this is the highest on the market? Can't remember what the Peg's limit is)
You can extend the headrest up for rearfacing and it's similar to a vehicle headrest.
The crumple zones similar to vehicle crumple zones
the anti rebound bar
the built in lock offs for the seatbelt (most cheaper seats don't have lockoffs.. lockoffs make installation much simpler)
the amount of foam (many cheaper seats don't have foam in the tushy area-ouch!, and some don't even have any in the head area. Yikes!)
It's recycleable!
Love that the fabric is liquid repellant/stain resistant etc!

I love this seat. It sits high up allowing my son to see out of the window. The install with this seat is solid. It also has a 50lb rear facing max.

I hate this seat because it feels unfinished. Your kid is literally sitting on foam. There is no cushion or padding. Just a fabric wrapped piece of foam. The locking clips break very easily and right now I can't even install it with a seat belt properly. It's a lot bigger than I expected.

I am returning it. My RXT was better. When they make it more comfortable & increase the rear facing height limit I WILL buy another. However this seat just does not take the cake.

The reason I choose the Diono.
1. It rear faces to 45lbs 44 inches. The foonf rear faces to 50lbs and 43 inches.
2. The RXT will fit in my center seat but the Foonf will not.
3. The RXT has memory foam in the seat, the Foonf has Styrofoam and fabric.

The Foonf is a great idea but it needs work!

While I do not have any other information on the safety of this seat, thankfully, I do have further comments about the straps. Our son is now 43" tall and 45 lbs. He is now complaining each time we put him in it because the center strap between his legs is far too short. We pulled the Orit back out and he said it is "easier" to sit in which I understand from a padding standpoint alone.

I am extremely disappointed we will have to stop using this after only 1 year because of what seems to be a really obvious design flaw. I would definitely not recommend this seat especially since this is one of the more expensive seats on the market.

I will edit this review if I find something to back up or dispute my thoughts.

We replaced our expensive Orbit seat with the Foonf. And I am still not sure I am sold. The Orbit straps apparently twist on their own whenever you leave the seat and the foam kept snapping off around the head so I was tired of battling this.

I agree with all of the others mentioning the poor manual and the difficulty in reaching the release as well as the too short straps that are plenty tight on our son's thighs even after moving it.

However my biggest concern is this is much more like a booster seat since the sides are so shallow. When it is sitting next to the Orbit the difference is very noticeable. The best way I can describe it is a lot more of our son's body is exposed on each side.

Our son is 3 and about 39" and 41 lbs. He said "Higher up" because he does sit up higher. He does complain about the straps on his legs and around his neck since they are much stiffer than the Orbit. He tore off the belt covers before we had left the driveway which might help.

We have 1.5yr old twins and recently bought two Clek foonfs in dragonfly green. We purchased the Foonfs from a boutique in Los Angeles in mid-december as they were just starting to hit the market and only a handful of stores had them, none in our local area. We had done a lot of research and likes what we saw and read about the Foonf. When we received them I was pleasantly surprised that the car seats looked every bit as good as the pictures online. They really are the best looking car seats I have ever seen. They almost have an "Apple-like" design aesthetic with the flowing white part of the seat. The white and green really compliment each other well.

Getting them out of the box I realized just how hefty these seats were. They are not light, but I expected that due to all the metal and other features used in the seats. Let's just say if you are in the habit of moving car seats on a regular basis you will get a workout. As far as prepping the seat for installation by putting it together it was relatively painless. The bottom seat cushion pops off easy enough and you can thread the buckles through the holes for rear facing install. The headrest was very easy to install too as was the base that needs to be put on for rear facing installation. The only thing that might frustrate some people is installing the anti-rebound bar. Luckily I had viewed a video from Clek on youtube that showed the easiest way to install the bar. If I had not viewed that in advance it probably would have been more difficult. The key was to put on of the bars into the hole and then stick your finger through the opposite side of the hole and push down on the tab at the end of the bar so it would slide into the hole. Once I had that figured out it was pretty easy to get in.
