Another Noteworthy Clemencic Recording, September 5, 2004
This review is from: Clemencic & His Flutes (Audio CD)
Here Rene Clemencic ~ conductor, composer, flute virtuoso and musicologist extraordinaire ~ introduces us to some stellar, challenging, delightfully obscure Middle Age / Renaissance / Baroque works for flutes. An entire array of flutes, featuring no less than 21 members of the recorder family plus pipes and instruments fashioned from horns and reeds.
Works by von Reuenthal, Susato, Castello, Boismortier, the ubiquitous anonymous and others display the complete range of these astonishing instruments and spotlights the incredible virtuosity of Clemencic and his Consort. The liner notes written by Dr. Clemencic detail the instruments used on this CD and how they're played, plus he helpfully places them within their historical timeframe.
Rene Clemencic unerringly produces recordings of note, most every one unique, informative and unfailingly superb. His awards prove this. He's recipient of the Edison, the Grand Prix du disque, Diapason d'Or, Prix Cecilia, ffff Telerama, Choc du Monde de la Musique, Timbre de Platine among others.
I'd snap up as many of Dr. Clemencic's discs as I could.
