5.0 out of 5 stars A Logical Approach to Biography
I really enjoy the way this book is structured. It's almost purely chronological and does not skip around like the new Cleopatra biography by Stacy Schiff. It reads more like an informational text rather than a casual research paper and I greatly enjoyed the straightforwardness of the facts. The reader finds very few unnecessary (or out-of-context) details...

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative, but Reads Like a Textbook
The biography of Cleopatra was a very historical look at one of history's most famous queens. The book was very difficult to get started as it read like a history textbook on the subject. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Logical Approach to Biography, May 22, 2011
This review is from: Cleopatra the Great: The Woman Behind the Legend (Hardcover)
I really enjoy the way this book is structured. It's almost purely chronological and does not skip around like the new Cleopatra biography by Stacy Schiff. It reads more like an informational text rather than a casual research paper and I greatly enjoyed the straightforwardness of the facts. The reader finds very few unnecessary (or out-of-context) details.

A previous reader commented that this makes the book read more like a textbook. But let's be honest... We're talking about a historical biography of a woman who's true nature could only be studied through 2,000+ year old remnants. It needs to read like a textbook, for we do not have direct access to Cleopatra's feelings, opinions, or personality like we would with a biography of a living individual.

I highly recommend it.
