This review is from: Clerks: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The Clerks soundtrack delivers a matching atmosphere to match Kevin Smith's debut masterpiece. It's mostly alternative, with the exception of one punk song and one metal song.Okay, so the songs are not presented completely in the order that they appeared in the movie, but so what? Most of the time, that's the case. Love Among Freaks have two songs here, the title track which sets the whole attitude of the movie and "Berserker," the tune Silent Bob's Russian cousin Olaf sings. The loud but lazy blare of Alice In Chains' "Got Me Wrong" fits Randal's "SFW" slacker attitude appropriately, as well as another aspect of the film's ambience. The two cover songs here stand up to the original versions. I'm of course referring to Seaweed's cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way," played during the guidance counselor scene, and Golden Smog's cover of Bad Company's "Shooting Star," where we learn how Randal's cousin Walter died. The dialogue bits enhance the soundtrack. Intercut between songs are Dante's reason why Empire was better than Jedi, at which point the silly and hilarious "Chewbacca" song plays. "Chewbacca! What a Wookie!" Just great! Another dialogue bit is where Dante tells Randal how Caitlin cheated on him eight and a half times, and then there's the one where Randall believes he's expanding his horizon by renting a porno movie. Soul Asylum's "Can't Even Tell" is a perfect closer to the soundtrack and the movie. Clerks will go down in history as one of the best movies of all time, with the added bonus of having one of the most fitting soundtracks. And yes, I am supposed to be here today... writing this review.

Fans of the Clerks movie will no doubt love the soundtrack, which not only features the music from the movie, but dialog excerpts from the movie that tie into the songs. Alice in Chains' "Got Me Wrong" from their "Sap" EP fits Randal perfectly, which is probably why it was included on the soundtrack to begin with. Supernova's "Chewbacca" is hilarious and ties into the preceding dialog excerpt between Dante and Randal over what was better; Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Bad Religion's "Leaders and Followers" fits Dante's persona (in the film he said he couldn't make altering decisions by himself), while surprise appearences from Stabbing Westward and Corrosion of Conformity nicely add a heavy flair to the package. Soul Asylum's "Can't Even Tell" is the film's theme song and fits it nicely, not to mention on the Clerks DVD the video that Kevin Smith directed for the song is included. All in all, if you loved the Clerks movie, you'll dig the soundtrack.

Well..this cd is an excellent companion to the movie. The sound clips from the movie make great additions to it and make it a true soundtrack. The only thing that would have made the cd better is that they could have included the sound snippet from the movie when Jay was trying to convince Olaf to sing Berserker (Which should have been placed before the track "Berserker" of course..) Overall the songs are a great mix of styles and the sounds make you think back to the excellent movie.

Great collection of stuff from the "Golden Age" of grunge!,

This review is from: Clerks: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This CD not only made for a perfect soundtrack for Kevin Smith's classic debut movie, but it can also stand alone as a great collection of grunge/metal/alternative tunes from an assembly of famous and lesser known performers from the early 90's. This was when the whole grunge and alternative scene was at its creative peak, when it all sounded new and fresh and was a welcome change from all those overpromoted, overproduced "hair bands" from the 80's. Truth be told, I'd never even heard of some of these bands before I saw the movie, yet I'd far sooner listen to the quirky humor of "Making Me Sick" or the driving metal intensity of "Big Problems" than a whole album worth of Def Leppard! "Clerks" is one of my all time favorite comedies (ranks right up there with "Airplane!" in my book) and Kevin Smith has as good an ear for music as humor; the songs convey the tone of the movie perfectly, highlighting the basic slacker attitude of the two clerks (especially Randal) and the background characters like Jay and Silent Bob. Anyone who loves this movie enough to buy the DVD (as I did) owes it to himself to buy the music CD as well, in fact, my only complaint is the film version of "Chewbacca" is much longer than the one on the album...But, as gripes go, that's it. This album is nothing if not a great collection of early 90's tunes, there's not a dog in the bunch!

Excellent soundtrack!,
This review is from: Clerks: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This soundtrack to Kevin Smith's 1994 film "Clerks" is excellent. The highlights are "Got Me Wrong" by Alice in Chains, "Can't Even Tell" by Soul Asylum, and "Clerks" by Love Among Freaks. The soundtrack also features bits of the conversations between Dante and Randall. For example, the track "Bunch of Muppets" lets us listen to the conversation Dante and Randall have about the Star Wars sequels (Empire and Jedi, if you're curious.) This is a great soundtrack to a great film. If you're a fan of the movie, buy the Clerks X DVD set, and if you dig the music, buy this soundtrack.

The best soundtrack I have ever listened to.,

You don't have to be a fan of the movie to enjoy this soundtrack. If you are a fan of the movie, its even better for you, theres soundclips from the movie on here. The best song on the whole soundtrack, hands down, is "got me wrong" by Alice in Chains. I suggest that if you don't have this soundtrack yet, listen to a song or two from it, and if you like, go out and get it.

This is a truly diverse collection of music with great quotes from the film which make the Album flow. With small name bands along with big names this makes a refeshing change. In particular check out "Leaders and Followers" by Bad Religion and "Go your Own Way" by Seaweed, an excellent cover of a great Fleetwood Mac Song.

This is your fairly typical Kevin Smith soundtrack, even though it was the first one. At least it's similar to "Mallrats" and "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back" anyway. Basically it's dialogue from the film, song, repeat. I like that of course, as the bits from the movie take you right back to it, and the music is usually a good mix. The majority is punk/alternative type stuff, the best of which to me is Alice In Chains, Jesus Lizard, COC, and Soul Asylum. The covers from Golden Smog and Seaweed are decent, and this also includes the classic track "Chewbacca". Basically any Kevin Smith-worshipping-slacker-types should dig this. You know who you are.

If you like the soundtrack to singles, you should like this. LIstening to it right now. One of those few albums that greatly encompasess the grunge scene but also a bit of other things as well. (i.e. bad religions inclusion on the soundtrack). Props to the weinsteins and kevin smith for making such a kick ass compilation.

Really, the only way to enjoy this soundtrack is if you've seen the movie. The quotes scattered throughout are hilarious and most of the songs are good. The best are "Can't Even Tell" by Soul Asylum,"Got Me Wrong" by Alice in Chains,"Leaders and Followers" by Bad Religion,"Clerks" by Love Among Freaks, and the songs "Chewbacca" and "Berserker" are great if you've seen the movie.
