5.0 out of 5 stars You won't find this soundtrack at any Quik Stop, September 18, 2001
The Clerks soundtrack delivers a matching atmosphere to match Kevin Smith's debut masterpiece. It's mostly alternative, with the exception of one punk song and one metal song.

Okay, so the songs are not presented completely in the order that they appeared in the movie, but so what? Most of the time, that's the case.

Love Among Freaks have two songs here, the title track which sets the whole attitude of the movie and "Berserker," the tune Silent Bob's Russian cousin Olaf sings.

The loud but lazy blare of Alice In Chains' "Got Me Wrong" fits Randal's "SFW" slacker attitude appropriately, as well as another aspect of the film's ambience.

The two cover songs here stand up to the original versions. I'm of course referring to Seaweed's cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way," played during the guidance counselor scene, and Golden Smog's cover of Bad Company's "Shooting Star," where we learn how Randal's cousin Walter died.

The dialogue bits enhance the soundtrack. Intercut between songs are Dante's reason why Empire was better than Jedi, at which point the silly and hilarious "Chewbacca" song plays. "Chewbacca! What a Wookie!" Just great! Another dialogue bit is where Dante tells Randal how Caitlin cheated on him eight and a half times, and then there's the one where Randall believes he's expanding his horizon by renting a porno movie.

Soul Asylum's "Can't Even Tell" is a perfect closer to the soundtrack and the movie. Clerks will go down in history as one of the best movies of all time, with the added bonus of having one of the most fitting soundtracks. And yes, I am supposed to be here today... writing this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Olaf metal", June 4, 2002
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Fans of the Clerks movie will no doubt love the soundtrack, which not only features the music from the movie, but dialog excerpts from the movie that tie into the songs. Alice in Chains' "Got Me Wrong" from their "Sap" EP fits Randal perfectly, which is probably why it was included on the soundtrack to begin with. Supernova's "Chewbacca" is hilarious and ties into the preceding dialog excerpt between Dante and Randal over what was better; Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Bad Religion's "Leaders and Followers" fits Dante's persona (in the film he said he couldn't make altering decisions by himself), while surprise appearences from Stabbing Westward and Corrosion of Conformity nicely add a heavy flair to the package. Soul Asylum's "Can't Even Tell" is the film's theme song and fits it nicely, not to mention on the Clerks DVD the video that Kevin Smith directed for the song is included. All in all, if you loved the Clerks movie, you'll dig the soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars My love for this CD is like a truck! BERSERKER!, November 10, 1999
By A Customer
Well..this cd is an excellent companion to the movie. The sound clips from the movie make great additions to it and make it a true soundtrack. The only thing that would have made the cd better is that they could have included the sound snippet from the movie when Jay was trying to convince Olaf to sing Berserker (Which should have been placed before the track "Berserker" of course..) Overall the songs are a great mix of styles and the sounds make you think back to the excellent movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars "I'm not even supposed to be here today".
This is your fairly typical Kevin Smith soundtrack, even though it was the first one. At least it's similar to "Mallrats" and "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back" anyway. Read more

Actually the song Jay is dancing to in the parking lot scene is "Goodbye Horses" by Q. Lazzarus. It's also on the original Silence of the Lambs soundtrack.
