About the Author

Randall Starling, MD, MPH, is Head of the Section of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Medicine, the Medical Director of the Kaufman Center for Heart Failure and a Staff Cardiologist in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine, Operations. He specializes in congestive heart failure, cardiac transplantation, cardiomyopathy and mechanical circulatory support devices. Dr. Starling was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic in 1995 as a Staff Physician and Director of the Heart Transplant Medical Services. He has a joint appointment as a Staff Physician in Cleveland Clinic’s Multi-Organ Transplant Center. He is board-certified as a Diplomate in internal medicine and in the subspecialty of cardiovascular disease. In addition, he is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.

This is very useful information for anyone living with heart failure or caring for someone with heart failure. It is easy to read and understand. Please closely monitor your potassium if you are taking potassium sparing diuretics. Hyperkalemia is an excess of potassium in your blood and can cause sudden death. By following the information in this book hopefully will extend our lives and the quality of our lives. There are constantly advances being made in this disease. There is hope. I also subscribe to their newsletter. It is excellent.

I bought this book for two reasons. One, I have congestive heart failure and wanted to learn more about the condition and what the future holds. Two, it bears the name of Cleveland Clinic, in which I have a great deal of trust. This was money well spent.
