Surgical Menopause after Hysterectomy,

I am 44 years old and although I wish I was going through menopause naturally, I am being pushed into surgical menopause via the removal of my last remaining ovary due to endometriosis. It's been a tough haul but something that I'm facing head on through processes like reading this book.
I was attracted to the book initially because I have visited the Cleveland Clinic online for various information. I was also drawn by the publishing date. It appears to be the most current and thorough book on the topic at the moment. One of my biggest areas of concern as I approach my surgery is the use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). There has been SO much bled by the media over the past decade that it is difficult to make heads or tails of the information. I was happy to see a large section devoted to the debunking or rather the enlightening of the results received in one of the largest studies funded by NIH called the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). Dr. Thacker spends a good amount of time explaining the results of this study and how misinformed we have become as consumers and women by the media. Getting a clearer understanding of the study, the results and the population helped me understand that I do not need to fear HRT and that it will actually be extremely helpful for me as I labor through some of those tough menopausal symptoms to come. The book addresses symptoms, healthy living, sexual health, sleep issues and mood. The book is thorough, engaging and a good read for all women (and their spouses too) about that new life stage called menopause. Whether you are a woman going through "the change" naturally over a course of time or forced into it through surgery, this is a good read with a lot of helpful information and advice. 5 stars. Thank you Dr. Thacker!

I downloaded this book to read on my Kindle not sure of what to expect. I found it to be full of useful information. The author, Dr. Holly Thacker, is one of the foremost menopausal experts in America. The Center for Specialized Women's Health at the Cleveland Clinic, which she directs, has a unique and wonderful approach for treatiing patients dealing with a wide variety of issues related to hormones.
There is a great deal of information being circulated these days by both the internet and the media. Some of it is accurate. Some of it isn't. If you are looking for some clarity regarding possible safe treatments for perimenopause or menopausal symptoms this book will be of great help to you. It will at least give you options while debunking some of the myths that have caused many women to suffer needlessly by avoiding FDA approved treatments due to fear. I was able to get through the entire book in one day. Obviously I'll be referring back to it in the future. The author has written it in every day language so that the reader will easily understand. Her goal is not necessarily to push you the way of traditional medicine. Or at least that is not the impression that I had while reading. Her desire is to clarify misunderstandings and bring hope to women who have come to believe that there is no help available during this deep transition in life. I highly recommend reading this book. At the very least it will offer you better understanding of your body, and its needs. It also has the possibility of assisting you in making some important decisions about your overall health and well-being. I believe that men & women can both benefit from reading Dr. Thacker's book. I noticed that another reviewer, who is also a doctor, said that they will be making it available to their patients. As women, we need people who will help us to do more than survive the "the change." We need to be able to thrive. Thank you, Dr. Thacker for your contribution!
