Book Description

Now in its revised, updated Third Edition, The Cleveland Clinic Intensive Review of Internal Medicine offers thorough preparation for board certification and recertification exams in internal medicine. It is written by distinguished Cleveland Clinic faculty and serves as the syllabus for the Cleveland Clinic's esteemed internal medicine board review course. The book is organised by topic so that readers can easily focus review time on specific areas. Each chapter contains bulleted lists and clinical vignettes to highlight the most crucial clinical points. Board simulations at the end of major sections enable readers to identify and review weak areas, and a mock board exam appears at the end of the book. This edition's expanded mock board exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions plus a new section of clinical vignettes to prepare readers for the extended-case-and-question format of the boards. The full text of this edition, plus additional questions and vignettes, will be on our internal medicine specialty site, LWWmedicine.com

4.0 out of 5 stars better than i thought, February 1, 2010

(REAL NAME)
Initially I wrote a scathing review of this book because it said some things I didnt like about physical exams, how worthless they are. But as I got into the book chapter by chapter, I found it to be very useful and informative for docs like me who have been practicing a long time and might not be up on the latest information. A lot of scholarly work went into this review and I hope that it will provide me with what I need for the boards. After all, that is its main purpose. I am assuming, though the authors dont say so--that the editors have made it their business to focus on what will be on the exam as there is an awful lot of stuff to absorb. It is a great review for the practicing clinician who might not be so familiar with concepts outside of his or her field, particularly for PCPs who in the real (U.S.) world rarely practice without the use of specialists and therefore may not be up on the latest information in the subspecialties.

2.0 out of 5 stars notice wrong specificity definition in biostatistics chapter 4, July 19, 2009
I read chapter 4 biostatistics first, and noticed a serious error in the definition of specificity on page 43. Specificity should be D/(B+D), not B/(B+D).

Chapter 4 is not well organized, and comprehensive enough.
I am disappointed since this is already the 5th edition.
