This review is from: Cleveland: A Concise History, 1796-1996 (Encyclopedia of Cleveland History) (Hardcover)
Good historical overview of Cleveland supplemented by photographs. Cut and dried, scholarly approach. Recommended as a starting point for historical research into what shaped the city.

A Good Overview Of Cleveland History,
This review is from: Cleveland: A Concise History, 1796-1996 (The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History) (Paperback)
Updated for the city's Bicentennial celebration, the book is part of an ongoing series based on The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History.
Northeast Ohio historical consultant Carol Poh Miller and respected college professor Robert A. Wheeler - who has written extensively on early city history - present an overview of Cleveland's rich heritage, with an emphasis on the period from 1930-1996. The authors split the history into four parts, utilizing more than 50 illustrations, with an appendix that includes the city's population from 1830-1990, a listing of mayors and a section of additional readings for those interested in delving further into specific topics. The book does a good job in briskly - and punctually - moving through the city's history like an old CTS rapid-transit train on a clear summer day. |
