5.0 out of 5 stars The Cleveland Creep title is not what you may think it is., July 11, 2011
This review is from: The Cleveland Creep (Milan Jacovich Mysteries #15) (Hardcover)
Les Roberts has come up with a new twist in his latest book featuring our favourite detective , Milan Jacovich. The author manages to treat the delicate and tragic subject of child pornography tied in with murder and unrequited love in an entertaining and unique manner while devising a tale which has twists and turns preventing the reader from learning who the culprit is until the very end.

I enjoyed the suspense Roberts created throughout the book leading us and Jacovich down back alleys only to find that we were barking up the wrong tree . Finally I very much enjoyed the introduction of a new character, K.O. who I am hopeful ,will provide us with Jacovich's youthful alter ego in future tales Roberts will offer us for our reading enjoyment.

Highly recommended reading .

Les has not let us down with this one. Intoducing a new character was handled very well. The book is not for Cleveland people only and should be on your bookshelf where ever you live.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!, July 10, 2011
This review is from: The Cleveland Creep (Milan Jacovich Mysteries #15) (Hardcover)
If you're a Milan or Les Roberts fan and even if you're new to the series or the author, this is a "must read." As always, Les Roberts does not disappoint with his timely and compelling topics, his development of old and new characters and his rich descriptions. After just a few pages, his PI, Milan Jacovich, will be your new friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read!, October 28, 2011

Les Roberts has given us another winner in "The Cleveland Creep". Milan Jakovich is back and we're introduced to a new character, Kevin O'Banion, detective-in-training. They work together to solve a murder and shut down a child porn ring. Once you start reading it will be hard to stop. When you do, you will be asking when the next Milan Jakovich mystery will be available. Thanks, Mr. Roberts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Milan Helps Clean Up the "Ugly", September 24, 2011
By

This review is from: The Cleveland Creep (Milan Jacovich Mysteries #15) (Hardcover)
I'm about a quarter of the way into "The Cleveland Creep," my fourth Milan Jacovich book. As always, I'm wondering who, how, when and where, and rooting for Milan (and relating to his aging). The relationship (and emails) between Milan and K.O. and the way Milan's dealing with his client, Savannah, made me chuckle. I'm also learning more about Cleveland and its history, which I always enjoy.

It's not just the mystery that Milan's solving that draws in the reader. It's the way he solves it; how he links facts and people together, what he says and how he says it. It's also Milan's appreciation for his heritage, family, community, Cleveland, friends, romantic relationships (and the lack thereof). His respect for his clients, mob connections, and even the bad guys and gals he busts, is also admirable. Milan is a true gentleman.

I, (and for many out there, I'm sure), appreciate how Milan deals with the "ugliness" in the world and that he stops at nothing until he catches people that make it that way.

Les Roberts' Milan Jacovich books are not only hard to put down, they've increased my respect for police, fire fighters, prison workers, soldiers, veterans, and detectives who deal with (or dealt with) very "ugly" people and situations every day to make this world a "prettier place" for the rest of us.

My advice, READ THEM ALL!

5.0 out of 5 stars Facinating book!, September 13, 2011
By
This review is from: The Cleveland Creep (Milan Jacovich Mysteries #15) (Hardcover)
There's nothing more exciting than following the path woven by a talented and experienced mystery writer, and in this case (The Cleveland Creep)the intrigue is masterful in that regard. One reviewer indicated that the story was stale; I would challenge that assessment for a number of reasons, including the skillful development of a complex plot in this latest LR offering. In this case, Roberts sets the challenge in Cleveland once again, and that definitely adds to the zest and appeal that has characterized the entire series of Milan adventures. Anybody can make up stories about anybody doing anything in California, New York, Chicago, etc. But aren't you tired of that stuff yet? We get bombarded with it every time we turn on the TV, watch a DVD or go to the movies, etc. The metropolis setting has become so "common" and trite, and this author gives us a chance to enjoy NE Ohio at its best. Right? And, in this latest book we're also gifted with a delightful and interesting new character; wow, that creates a lot of future possibilities for all of us. What a knock out! Get the book. Read it. You'll enjoy it, and then seek out more of Mr. Les Roberts. His stuff is great. JTM

I'm a big fan of Roberts' books, which are even more interesting because I'm familiar with many of the sights and sounds he writes about. This one is no exception! I do wish that future books will be available for the Kindle. This is the first hardcover book I've purchased in quite some time, and the only reason I caved in is that I didn't want to miss out on reading this one.

Les Roberts has created another gem. Milan Yacovich is aging, but is still a viable detective. In THE CLEVELAND CREEP we appear to have a new character for future episodes, Milan has another fling, the mafia still has its position and clout in Cleveland and justice was served on both the east and west sides of town. Word of advice for potential readers; clear your calendar to make time for this book, once you start reading, it will be nearly impossible to put down. I look forward to the next installment in the Milan Yacovich series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Milans To Go..., August 16, 2011

A friend gave me this book to take on a trip with me, and I managed to read the entire novel while waiting at the airport for a delayed flight. I was determined to like this book. I've read almost all Roberts' books and at one point, we had been friends. I know that writing is his life and he's always said he's lucky to do something he so enjoys. But the Milan novels, to me at least, are becoming stale. And in this particular one, Milan seems to spend a lot of time in moribund musings about his age, lack of friends and physical infirmities although he is still middle-aged by most standards. I forsee that his headaches will morph into something more serious that may cause him either to retire or pass away, and the series will continue with Kevin O'Bannion as the main character. I know that Roberts is an Honorary Irishman and he is very enamored of the Irish heritage here in Cleveland. The character of "Cisne" (rhymes with "Disney"), is an obvious nod to his own girlfriend, as he makes her his girlfriend's age, occupation as a teacher, comments on the decades that separate her and our hero, and approximates her physical characteristics. It's unusual for Roberts to include such an overt reference to his own private life in one of his novels. Cisne is nearing 40, but Milan calls her "adorable" at every opportunity as if she were 4 instead. With the exception of Suzanne Davis, the older women in this book, such as Savannah Dacey, are blowsy, overly made up, overweight and uneducated, or they are hard-ass businesswomen. The younger ones are, well, "adorable". There is the usual restaurant tour, but even this elicits depressing commentary from Milan since,he says, so many of his favorite restaurants are now history. I was rather surprised that he takes potshots at "his" city more than once. He says that "half the people in Cleveland call a 'picture' a 'pitcher'." early on in the book and he goes on for a long, boring paragraph about how a "pitcher" is someone who stands on a mound and throws baseballs during a Tribe game. There are other such insulting (to Cleveland/Clevelanders) statements in the book as well. As he's made his livelihood in and on Cleveland for many years, I thought this was rather unfair.

The plot is a weak one, Milan and K.O. investigate someone who takes "upshots" up girl's skirts. This developes into a(nother) investigation of pornography here in Cleveland with a smarmy nod to my former hometown of Twinsburg as well. There is only a Pillsbury Doughboy's tummy poke into the pornographic underworld. Milan does up the "e-w-w-w" factor with some animal torture in this novel which Roberts probably uses to prove a point but made no sense to me. Milan gets in fights (although most of these are now left to K.O.), Milan gets kidnapped, Milan gets beat up, Milan's car is destroyed, Milan eats, Milan drinks Stroh's, and there's not enough of Ed Stahl, who I still suspect is Les Roberts Undercover although he never admitted it to me.

I have "Father Candy" pre-ordered on my nook and am grateful that Roberts has finally seen the wisdom of putting his novels out in e-reader format. In a way, I'm grateful that he's writing a stand-alone. Although some people automatically think every single Milan is a winner, I kind of felt like I was passing by a traffic accident. Oh, well, on to "Conquistadora".
