4.0 out of 5 stars 'Cleveland Rocks!Music From The Drew Carey Show'(Rhino)
I usually prefer movie soundtracks rather than TV ones, but this one is an exception.I've never been the 'biggest' fan of the Drew Carey show, but I always watched it whenever I could. Each season of the long running TV show had a different song for it's opening segment, and well it should. Some really good tunes on this disc, like The Vogues-"Five O'Clock World"(I haven't...

3.0 out of 5 stars carrey makes few good choices for soundtrack
While I am a huge fan of the show, I must admit I had to stuggle to give the soundtrack 3 stars. The reason being that I was never a fan of the opening song that he did for season 1 (and 2?), "Moon Over Parma", which is cheesey and quite frankly makes absolutely nada sense. That plus I just plain do not like most of the songs on the c.d. The only thing that saves it is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Drew Carey ROCKS!, July 8, 2005

This is an extraordinary TV show album that will make you dance, laugh and cheer. It has all the right ingredients to make you feel good. The song selection is excellent and included the Vogues' winter of 1965-66 classic "5:00 World," which I love and Edgar Winters' "Free Ride."

The dance moves are brilliantly choreographed and the scenes are not lacking in fun and laughter. The spoof of Rocky Horror with the dance off with Priscilla the Drag Queen had me laughing so hard I was wiping tears of laughter out of my eyes. The scene were Carey and the Business Professionals are rounded up in the police truck and brought to the precinct house is priceless! That was just TOO funny! I loved it when the men did that dance to the 1976 Edgar Winters' hit, "Free Ride." That whole episode made me laugh until it HURT!

Drew Carey is a genuine talent. He can sing, dance, act and is just naturally funny. He has a good supporting cast who are masters of the fine art of comedy. There are few comedians I enjoy to the extent I enjoy Drew Carey. The Christmas parodies had me doubled over with laughter as did some of the other cleverly worked pieces.

The booklet that accompanies this CD provides a guide to each episode with the songs that are features. You also get treated to some good photographs of the show. This is truly an outstanding work of comedic art. I love it!

Cleveland Rocks, as Ian Hunter has proclaimed. This CD includes his recording of the song - the "all the young dudes" version of the song. Tower of Power with "What is Hip?" really moves, and Iggy Pop..."Lust for Life"...one of the best rock songs ever. It's all here, folks, along with snippets from the Drew Carey Show. It's great to hear all verses of "Moon Over Parma". This is a must for any road trip; guaranteed to have everyone singing and tapping their toes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Drew Carey Show Rocks, December 22, 2000
This review is from: Cleveland Rocks! Music From The Drew Carey Show (Audio CD)
The Drew Carey Show has made a habit of incorporated music into its episodes. They even go an extra step by having all-out musical production numbers. They are what make the show one of funniest on television today. The soundtrack collects all the songs that have been used in the show as well as extremely funny musical bits performed by cast members. The songs move between the 70's classic rock of BTO's "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" & The Edgar Winter Group's "Free Ride" to the funk of the Tower Of Power's "What Is Hip?" to 90's Tex-Mex rock of Reverend Horton Heat's "Now, Right Now" to the lounge stylings of Francis Ami's "A Man & A Woman". Some treats include the lost 60's gem "Five O'Clock World" by The Vogues which perfectly captures the everyday drudergy the show lampoons, the Rocky Horror classic "Time Warp" which sounds good on any album and an inspired live version of Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" in which he duets with Little Richard. The song bits perfectly breakup the album. Mr. Carey singing "God Bless America", the show's original theme "Moon Over Parma" & "High Hopes", the Winfred Louder Staff doing "Tomorrow" and "A Taste Of Honey" by the gang's garage band The Horndogs are down right hysterical. "Cleveland Rocks" is the current theme of the show and the song bookends the album. The album opens with the current version by the Presidents Of The United States Of America and closes with Ian Hunter's original (and, not suprisingly, superior) version. If you are a fan of the show, then you must own this cd and even if you're not, it's worth buying for its diversity.

this is the best soundtrack cd I have heard in my life! all the songs are funny and make me want to get up and dance along. i have seen most of the shows that include the songs, like Timewarp and Five O'Clock World. The best songs are the ones that Drew and the guys do the "Full Carey" with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music selection as eclectic as show!, May 24, 1999

When you deal with TV soundtracks, you stay pretty much in a music genre similar to the show's structure. And then you fill it in with drivel the musical artists didn't want on their own albums for one reason or another. This is a welcome exception. To my knowledge, any song Drew used on his show is on this CD. He fills the rest in with musical soundbytes from the cast, and the result is an incredibly eclectic playlist that runs from Tower of Power to Iggy Pop to Peaches and Herb. If you are familiar with the show, you have been cursed with viewing the image of Drew and his friends stripping in your mind any time you hear Edgar Winter's "Free Ride". But that's small price to pay. Give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Gurantee this CD will be one of your personal favorites!, June 21, 1999

The Drew Carey soundtrack has become one of my all-time favorite CDs. It has everything from the upbeat dance songs from the opening credits to humorous clips of the cast attempting to sing well-known pop hits. But it doesn't stop there. This album has something for EVERYONE. There are fantastic classics like BTO's "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" and "Working in the Coal Mine." To counter these up-beat hits, there are "dirty rock" tunes like "Lust for Life" and Reveren Horton Heat's pumping song "Now, Right now." Furthermore, the album itself has just the right mix. It keeps me tapping my feet wherever I'm at. There aren't too many of one type of song, just a collage of all types of music. These are the types of songs that get stuck in your head - and trust me, you'll love it. If you enjoy ANY of the songs you've heard on the show, this album is for you!

That plus I just plain do not like most of the songs on the c.d. The only thing that saves it is the medley "Groove Thing&Time Warp", "Cleveland Rocks" and the song he sadly only used for one season, "Five O'Clock World", which is very catchy and addictive. I still think that for just those 3 songs the c.d. is worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest TV soundtracks ever made, April 29, 2003

This is a great TV show album. Who can really say they don't feel like getting up and dancing to some of these songs when the show is playing and you're all alone. Well you've got more chance of being alone with the CD as the show is a bit too popular to be left watching by yourself.

The main titles from different years are here Cleveland Rocks and Five O'Clock World. You really do feel like doing the dance moves when you here them. Buying the album for these two alone is worth the money.

Other songs will bring back flashbacks to your mind of the episodes they're from such as You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet when they were doing the Full Monty with the spinning brown paper boxes and The Time Warp from the episode they had the Rocky Horror Verse verse Priscilla Queen of the Desert dance off.

Drew Carey sings a couple of songs Moon Over Parma, 40 Cubic Feet and God Bless America. Mimi sings Christmas Parodies along with a boys choir. Other characters from the show can be heard in the songs Working in the Coal Mine and Tomorrow. The Horn Dogs who sing A Taste of Honey are Drew, Lewis, Oswald and Kate who sings out of tune with the surrounding hilarious scene of that episode also on this track. Bite Me Doughboy is actual short sentence scenes from the show mix to a fast paced music sort of song. It is pretty good.

Free Ride is a catchy song in the tradition of the main title songs you can dance to. Now Right Now is a fast paced great song. The sexual icecream tv commercial sounds of un homme et une femme is the music of the song A Man and A Woman. Lust for Life and Rocky Mountain Way are the other two songs in full version which only parts (not the main parts) of were actually in the episodes. They are not the best songs in the world but pleasant enough to have as background music if working. All of the songs on here appeared in some format on the episodes which aired during or before 1998. This CD also comes with a mini book inside the front cover which tells you exactly which episode each and every song is from, if you can not remember just by hearing them. It has some great photographs of the episodes. Even if you don't like every song there are 24 of them so there should be enough that you will like to get your moneys worth.
