Book Description

December 24, 2008
For years, Michael Balcarris has loved Emily Dymoke from afar. However, because of his secret profession, he is unable to admit his feelings for her and show his true self. Instead, he must continue to present himself as a frivolous fop to both London society and the woman of his dreams. As a young girl, Emily had a private crush on Michael, who had been her brother Colin's handsome and dashing friend. Yet upon Michael's return to London after attending university, she is unable to abide his insufferable presence. To make matters worse, he insists on being everywhere she is--including her family's country home when they go on summer holiday. During their time in the countryside, however, Emily starts to see a new side of Michael. She also has to fight her growing attraction to him, leaving her to wonder how she could be falling in love with a man she can barely tolerate.

More About the Author

I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, lived in Geneva, Ohio for 16 years and now make my home in lovely Cabot, Arkansas. I've been married to James for 17 wonderful years (really, they have been wonderful!) We have three terrific children and four dogs. e have also raised cattle, pigs, and chickens at various times over the years. We would have gone into the goat business, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I started writing in 2000, and published my first short story a year later. Since then I have authored several short stories, novellas, novels, and have done a lot of freelance non-fiction work. I have also worked as an editor. I have a Masters degree in Special Education, emphasis on teaching the blind and visually impaired, and a Bachelors in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I have taught all age groups ranging from age 4 to age 18. A few of my favorite things: my relationship with Christ, chocolate (of course!), autumn, a satisfying book, good friends, a sense of humor, people who don't take themselves seriously, haunting melodies, NFL football, and did I mention chocolate?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Clever Little love Story, March 9, 2009
This review is from: A Clever Disguise (Regency Royal Mystery Series #2) (Hardcover)
Kathleen Fuller created some endearing characters, a little mystery, and a sweet love story in her newest book, A Clever Disguise. If you are a fan of historical romances and you'd love an afternoon getaway, this book is for you.

Emily Dymoke believes she lives in the shadows of her beautiful sister, Diana. Outspoken, independent Emily has a hard time fitting into the societal rules of the London ton. Michael Balcarris, close friend of Emily's brother Colin, is secretly in love with her. He has been for years. However, his profession prevents him from developing long term relationships. He must live the life of an insufferable bore and cad to cover his true identity and work. When his mother decides to summer with Emily's family in the country, Michael joins them. Much to Emily's dismay, his presence both annoys and attracts her. When a handsome man named Charles Pembroke worms his way into Emily's affections, Michael must contain his jealousy and work to expose Pembroke for the fraud he is. Can true love find its way through disguises and secrecies?

Kathleen wrote a lovely story of romance, history, and added some intrigue to make a great little book. I highly recommend you toss this book in your overnight bag for your weekend getaway. It will be an easy, pleasurable read. You'll want to read more about the lives of Michael and Emily.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun stroll through the English countryside, March 7, 2009
This review is from: A Clever Disguise (Regency Royal Mystery Series #2) (Hardcover)
My first impulse upon beginning to read this book was that I revisiting The Scarlet Pimpernel. The story line was very similar except in this case, the man who pretended to be a good-for-nothing fop was not married to the woman he loved. And due to his disguise of his true self, she reviles him. Not much unique about the story but that is hardly surprising with the number of romance books that have been written. The incurable romantic will find this one to their satisfaction. if you're a person (you might read male here) who wants more their romance women in with lots of physical action (read fighting here) in your literature, you will find this less than satisfying because the bulk of the story involves the internal struggles of the couple to deal with their world and emotions.
