General Overview of Design Concepts,
By A Customer
This review is from: Click Here: Web Communication Design (Lynda Weinman's Web Design Guides) (Textbook Binding)
This book featured a number of well developed web sites that were used as examples of what to do when laying out a design for a new web site. This is a good book for beginners without a design background, who are interested in learning some *basic* design concepts. This is definitely not the end all of design books, but a nice beginning introduction. The authors are down to earth with their tone and writing style. Very colorful, and very readable.

Web design for graphic designers,
By
This review is from: Click Here: Web Communication Design (Lynda Weinman's Web Design Guides) (Textbook Binding)
This book is a web design book written especially for graphic designers. In the first five chapters, Pirouz covers some basic concepts of web design, focusing more on graphic design issues such as color and white space more than navigation design or design for usability. In the second half of the book, he gives brief overviews of various software packages for creating Web media, such as Flash, Director, and Photoshop. Unfortunately, these software overviews are now dated, so the information in this section is no longer very useful. Overall, the book contains some worthwhile information, such as a detailed explanation of why web designers must consider their audience before beginning. On the other hand, some of Pirouz's recommendations are not as well thought out, such as when he recommends enhancing users' Web experience with sound on the homepage. (How long can you resist hitting the mute button after opening a page with background sound?) Perhaps this book might be of interest to graphic designers considering switching to Web media, but I didn't find much in it for me.

Using this book for education.,

"click here." contains well focused information about current techniques for multimedia broadcasting on webs. I use it as a textbook for teaching this subject at a Third Year level, servicing a bachelor degree in Communication Studies, at the Auckland Institute of Technology in New Zealand. The visual information in the book is printed to a high quality. It's consise, but very punchy with clear discussions. Students like it. New Riders as a publisher are working with good authors, I also use Gary Buoton's book "Inside Extreme 3D 2" as a course textbook. This book is good value to anybody working with web design and web strategy.

not up to par,

This review is from: Click Here: Web Communication Design (Lynda Weinman's Web Design Guides) (Textbook Binding)
This book is not BY Lynda Weinman, and Raymond Pirouz. It is BY Raymond Pirouz, DEVELOPED WITH Lynda Weinman. The difference is more than just syntax. Don't buy this book expecting Weinman's insight and knowledge. CLICK HERE does not measure up to those books actually written by Lynda Weinman. Avoid.

This attractive book gives good basic guidance for designing sites that draw the user's eye to important elements. However, the state of this art has advanced since 1997, when the book was published. Much of what the book recommends seems to have become conventional wisdom today (2002). Buy this book if you're a novice; otherwise, just move along.

Click Here, Web Communication DesignRaymond Pirouz with Lynda Weinman PUBLISHER: New Riders REVIEWED BY: Barbara Rhoades BOOK REVIEW: Most web designers are visual people. The book, Click Here, is designed for those types of people. There are plenty of graphics to look at and see what the text is talking about. Plus the print is at a size where you don't have to squint to read it. Color Safe Palette, File Size Optimization, Contrast, White Space, Web Sites for help and much more are contained within the pages of this book. As are Tools, Java, Webvertising, Search Engines, Banners, Link Exchange and software pros and cons. Five pages of Contents and 12 pages of Index make finding what you are looking for easy. If you need a review of basics or are looking for the fine tuned points on a certain topic, pick up a copy of Click Here and add it to your must read list.

I read "Click Here" in one sitting, cover to cover. The author successfully integrates discussions on Photoshop, Director, BBedit, Illustrator as well as good solid design techniques. I highly recommend this book. It's one you'll refer to time and time again.

I loved this book... I gave me a broad view of web design and narrowed in on giving realworld usable examples: " How did they do that... solutions". Good references and future readings also given. This book is a must for web designers or those implementing a web site.

Just one question ...,

How can a book entitled "Click Here" claim to offer any wisdom on the nature of good web design? The message is flawed even before you turn to page one.
