5.0 out of 5 stars A new way to network
As someone who hates to "network," I found the advice in Click to be a godsend. Click completely changed the way I think about networking--instead of approaching someone with the mentality of "what can I get out of them," you learn to approach people with the mentality of "What can I give to them? How can I make this realtionship click?" As a result, networking goes...

It's truly changed the way I think when I meet people for the first time--a must read.

Fraser hits the high points: be nice to everyone; be positive; see the good in people and say it. His section on holding your tongue when provoked is excellent. He quotes Sartre to great effect: "Words are loaded pistols." And he has an interesting take on your network: if you are the smartest person in it, you are building it the wrong way. Good point.

Click is an dynamic book that gives step-by step guidance as to how you can develop advanced networking skills that will help you improve the quality of your relationship with your mate, business partners, clients associates and friends.

Click gives you directions on how to identify if a relationship is healthy or toxic. Most important, Click deals with the business of reconnecting you with the personal touches that make-up a quality relationship like integrity, loyalty, honesty, respect, honor and unconditional love.

In 1994, author George C. Fraser wrote a nifty little book entitled "Success Runs in Our Race: The Complete Guide to Effective Networking in the Black Community". Fraser then carved out a comfortable little niche for himself as a "Black Networking Guru".

Almost 14 years later, Fraser is expanding his horizons. "Click" is essentially a rewrite of "Success..", stripped of all Afrocentric references (the NAACP, "minority empowerment", etc) and bowdlerized for the mass market. The emphasis is still on the quality of one's relationships (as opposed to the quantity of one's relationships).

This race-neutral rewrite makes Fraser lose more than a little focus along the way. The author, though, has created quite a following over the years(not unlike say, Stephen King or Tony Robbins) and his fans will eagerly purchase his latest product offerings sight-unseen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A more intelligent approach to networking!, January 13, 2008
This review is from: Click: Ten Truths for Building Extraordinary Relationships (Hardcover)
I've always felt that networking sessions had become nothing more than high school clique socials on steroids. After reading CLICK, I now have the opportunity to work on my existing network and expand it further.

One of the most valuable topics in the book was how to control one's tongue. The adage "Loose lips sink ships!" has never rung more true. People have a tendency to be reckless with their mouths under the guise of "being honest", when in fact it's an excuse to spit venom without accepting responsibility for what they speak. The way Fraser addresses this issue is mandatory reading for anyone involved in leadership and/or negotiation positions.

It's a quick read (200 pages), but a valuable one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Building upon the Golden Rule..., July 8, 2010
By
John Prestidge (Deering, NH United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Click: Ten Truths for Building Extraordinary Relationships (Hardcover)

Click provides a common sense approach toward improving your relationships with clients, stakeholders, team members, folks in your network, as well as friends and family.

As the title suggests, the author provides ten "truths" for interacting and developing your relationships with others, and uses quotes and experiences from individuals as diverse as Gandhi and Reverend Wright to illustrate his points.

Initially, I thought this was a repackaging of the concept of the Golden Rule. It is, but it's much more than that. Click is a set of guidelines with helpful metaphors and truisms to help you relate more effectively and completely with others, and to feel good about doing it.

Several areas which made me think more deeply about interpersonal dynamics included:

- A section on pruning relationships that are not positive in an effective and nontoxic manner to focus renewed energy on more mutually beneficial relationships. While (hopefully) rare, these experiences can be unsettling, and the author's perspective was helpful to consider.

- Being open to everything and attached to nothing, which makes it easier to consider, appreciate, and support the contributions of others while strengthening the bonds of effective teams and connections.

- The concept of Trust First -- Distrust Must Be Earned, helps to set aside preconditioned notions to look at each new situation with a fresh and open perspective.

In my business endeavors, I'm building relationships with people who know that I represent a vendor and support its sales and delivery mission. Click has augmented my skills to help me more effectively explore approaches to interact with my connections in new ways for their benefit, which in turn I'm sure will come back to me in a positive way.

The message is genuine, helpful, and generates as many positive feelings in the practitioner as it does in the recipient. If you can get that from a book, it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful, Sound Advice, Excellent Read, April 15, 2009
This review is from: Click: Ten Truths for Building Extraordinary Relationships (Hardcover)
A co-worker gave me a copy of this book because she had too many books on her list to read, and I can't say I've ever gotten a more useful read from anyone than this book was for me. I enjoy networking, but I'm still a fairly private person, so this book was interesting to me. Fraser talked about the ways to maintain your own life but be able to network at the same time. There were certain times in the book where my personality kinda clashed with his advice (especially the kissing up parts), but then there were parts of the book that I was delighted to find out I do already (give out thank you cards and keep notes on what my contacts enjoy). The list of interesting antecdotes, jokes, and quotes are endless, and I highlighted a few spots. The story about the two Black men on the elevator was the most amusing and surprising. This is a book I'll read again at some point because I liked the positive message Fraser sends out. In time, I may tailor more of my own networking ways to fit his because it's obviously working well for him. For anyone who is interested in improving on networking skills, building clientele, or meeting the "right" people, I'd suggest giving this book a shot.

Mr.Fraser's idea of networking is what your looking for if that is an important part
of your business.I actually used some of his methods and they did work.I would suggest though that you try them in a large setting that way you can try different
ones.Confidence is a must other wise it won't work well.
