The Clickfree Transformer is amazing. The advertising said just plug it in and it will do the rest and I was not dissapointed. After the initial connection it took about 30 minutes to back up 29 Gigs of data. Since then I spend less than 2 minutes a week keeping my backup up to date. A simple reminder pops up weekly to keep me honest. I have wished for a user friendly back up system for some time and I have finally found it.

This product makes downloading and saving data a breeze, especially for someone who is tech-challenged. Transferring record from my laptop's hard drive to an external drive for data backup and storage is as easy as plugging in the device. I highly recommend this tool.

I am not a fan of this device up to this point, especially from a user-friendly standpoint. I have spent more time with this backup device than any other backup program I have used over the past 5 years. Maybe I just got a bad one. First, the cable software would not load and start -- took 5 tries, two different USB ports (it failed to load via direct ports, but loaded via a USB hub,) finding and reading the troubleshooting tips, and two re-boots of my XP system. It then took 4 hours to "backup" about 50 GB to an external hard drive, not including the system crash/freezeup about 2 hours into it, requiring starting all over. Also, after the backup was "completed," when I explored the external hard drive to confirm the transfer, I could not locate the files anywhere on the drive. It occurs to me that the info that comes with the ClickFree transformer cable, as well as the website, gives no information as to WHERE on the receiving external hard drive the files are sent! I found no info as to how to designate where the files are sent, either. I guess I am missing something, and I will contact the company. My point is: this device may not be the perfect simple solution after all. Think twice before you buy.
UPDATE: Tech support informed me that the backed up files on the destination external hard drive are "hidden" to avoid consumers messing them up. They can be viewed only by enabling the "view hidden folders" option on the "tools--folder options" menu for the external hard drive. The backed up files are all in a folder named "s".

I bought this after trying several software based programs that either needed the patience of Job and the tech expertise of Jobs to get running correctly. I already had a perfectly good USB external 160GB HD and I plugged it into the Clickfree and the other end into my laptop's USB port and it transferred everything over to the external drive. I later added some extensions that the automatic backup missed (which is extremely easy). I also copied some folders of downloaded files and it now backsup any additions I make. After the 1st backup, subsequent ones take very little time. I just restored all of the above to my new laptop including all my favorites in both Explorer and Firefox, all my Thunderbird emails, all my passwords - everything. Restoring these to the new computer took a while as the files were about 68GB. By the way, I found Clickfree's tech support very helpful and they replied to an email support request within 24 hours with very accurate and useful information. I'm now a devoted fan of Clickfree.Clickfree Transformer

It works exactly as advertised . . . no fuss, no muss. The only problem I have encountered is that a USB port off a monitor may not have enough "juice" to run some drives. Using a USB port directly from the computer solves this problem.

I seldom write reviews for anything. However, the Clickfree Transformer works so well and is easy to backup all of your files that it has solved a major problem for me - reliable and trustworthy file backup. I never felt at ease using any of the other methods I have tried. Restoring files to my original drive or another computer is nice and easy. Couldn't ask for more.

Work as advertised - backed up my computer to an external hard drive that I already had --- then backed up my wife's computer. No problems. Have since updated backup with no problems. Very happy.

The Clickfree transformer easily performs plug-and-go file backups as advertized. Within minutes of initial installation, I had completely backed up three computers to my external storage drive with no hassle.

I first saw this product featured on Gadgets by [...] and hoped that it would do just what it said. I bought a My Passport drive by Western Digital hoping it would do the same thing (as it promised) it didn't so I formatted that disk and ordered the Clickfree Transformer. I first connected it to my laptop running Vista. For some reason when I first connected it, the back up didn't complete the first time. I reconnected it and it worked perfectly. I then connected it to my desktop running XP-Pro. It started the backup and I let it run over night. For some reason it got hung up. I disconnected it and did it again and it performed flawlessly. I now have my laptop and desktop backed up on the same external drive. It's great!! I am very pleased with the product and will buy another external drive to backup my work computer. Thanks to the people at Clickfree for making something that works like you say it will.

Very easy computer backup,

Before purchasing the Clickfree Transformer, I would manually transfer files from Windows Explorer to my flashdrive every week or two. This took a considerable amount of time since I had the choice of transferring all files, or trying to figure out which files were new or changed since the last backup and then transferring them a file at a time.
Now, I place the Clickfree Transformer between the USB port of my computer and my flash drive (the initial backup took about 2 hours). Within two minutes, all new and changed files since my last backup are either written or overwritten to the flash drive. It is even backing up files that I wouldn't have known to backup. Many of my friends are now using the Clickfree, and all of us very happy with the speed and thoroughness of this product. |
