Perfection!,

This review is from: Clics Moderno (Audio CD)
This is the second album released by Charly Garcia after he started his career as a solo artist. He had come from three superbands: Sui Generis, La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros and Seru Giran. In all three, he helped give shape to what later would be known as Rock en Español.
Clics Modernos, in this remastered edition reissued in Argentina in 2004, has a very eighties feel to it, with beats coming straight out of a rhythm box, coupled with some of the most outstanding musicianship around at the time. Some of the musicians on it, Garcia included, were quite simply the best at their art. One good example of this is Pedro Aznar, who plays bass in several of the tracks. Having played with Garcia in Seru Giran, he later went on to pursue a very succesful solo career and worked alongside artists such as Pat Metheny. There are no weak musical moments throughout the album, but if forced to pick, I'd say the closing three tracks, starting with the touching "Los Dinosaurios" and wrapping with the warm "Ojos de Video Tape" are among the best works by Charly ever. The lyrics to "Los Dinosaurios" used to bring tears to my eyes even before the recent passing of my dad, when he sings "la persona que amas puede desaparecer" (the person you love may dissapear). To make it easy for those who are not aware of what this is all about, one word sums it all up fairly well: perfection! Get it.

Garcia no es un extraño,
By padulabox "padulabox" (Miami , Fl) - See all my reviews

THE GOLDEN AGE OF GARCIA,

This is the 2004, remastered Argentine Digipak edition of "Modern Clix". It does not come with a booklet as with the original Interdisc pressing from the early 90's. The vast improvement in sound quality, however, more than makes up for it. You can get the lyrics by Googling the titles, and as far as artwork is concerned, you're not missing anything. There are 9 tracks. Some of them show their age - as Charly Garcia used synthesizers that were kind of cheesy at that period in time, and awfully outdated by now. Still, the music is excellent, the songs are very well written and performed. This is the Charly Garcia I grew to admire and love. Not what we have today. Highly recommended.
