About the Artist

Forming five years ago, The Red Chord is a grind-hardcore band from the north shore area of Massachusetts who’s collective goal is to push the extremes of aggressive music and to combine the best aspects of the hardcore, death, grind and metal genres. Original members Guy and Kevin asked Gunface to join the line up in 2000 to add an additional guitar player while Greg would eventually be invited to fill the bass position. At this point The Red Chord became one of the most talked about bands in the underground. After over 400+ shows across 14 countries for their first release, Fused Together In Revolving Doors, and moving approximately 25,000 CD’s worldwide, The Red Chord found current drummer Brad in late 2004 and began to finalize new material for the debut release on Metal Blade Records.

Signing with Metal Blade earlier last year, The Red Chord has been cited as one of the most influential crossover bands of the hardcore, grind and metal genres. They have been referenced, featured or interviewed in the majority of pertinent heavy music periodicals including Revolver, AP, Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Unrestrained, Decibel and Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles. This year looks to be the bands biggest year yet, with their new record street dating on May 17th 2005 and some huge tour plans to follow including The New England Hardcore & Metal Fest as well as a co-headlining tour with Bury Your Dead.

So what should fans of The Red Chord’s previous work expect? "It's a very different album than Fused Together in Revolving Doors. I personally think it's a lot heavier and angrier, but we'll let you judge for yourself," states vocalist Guy Kozowyk. To say Clients is thought provoking is a mere understatement as it forces you look at society’s unfortunates and wonder how they became the way they did. Fans as well as fellow musicians have been waiting quite some time for the follow up to the bands highly successful Fused Together in Revolving Doors making Clients one of the most anticipated releases of 2005 and this album will in no way let anyone down. In order to capture the pure brutality of the music The Red Chord decided to record at the infamous Planet Z with engineer/producer Zeuss (Hatebreed & Shadows Fall) securing Clients as one of the heaviest releases of 2005. To accompany the massive and fierce sound of the album renowned artist Paul Romano, known for his work with bands like Mastodon, Nasum, Godflesh, and Dead To Fall, was brought on board to handle all the aspects of the artwork, which include portraits of each "client" mentioned in the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for The Red Chord / Clients - 2 Stars for the extras, August 3, 2006
This review is from: Clients (Dlx) (Audio CD)
As far as The Red Chord goes I am extremely impressed and I truly hold this (and their debut Fused Together In Revolving Doors) in high regard. These guys walk such a fine line between grindcore, technical death metal, and hardcore and unfortunately get hit with the "metalcore" tag quite a bit because someone with an unexperienced ear has no idea what genre to pigeonhole this band with. Just know this, The Red Chord will appeal to anyone with a taste for violent, brutal, and unpredictable music and that is what I admire about them the most. It is refreshing to hear a band who's song structure doesn't consist of Ripped Off Swedish Guitar Melody, followed by a hardcore breakdown, followed by a solo, followed by the chorus. Clients is a fantastic album that musically ranges from brutally simple (Lay the Tarp) to mindscrambling technicallity (Upper Decker, Black Santa) and also showcases a "concept album" type lyrical base, it comes off as disturbing, intelligent, but most of all extremely pissed. If you are looking for a truly original band that does not need clean vocals, accoustic interludes, or keyboards to stand out then look no further, pick this up with Fused Together for an unrelenting musical beatdown that will leave you ready for war.

Now as far as this special edition goes, pick it up if you don't already own this CD however for those who do... This really is a shoddy cash in attempt for their appearance on Ozzfest by Metalblade Records the two previously unreleased tracks are Seven Seconds of Screaming which is exactly what the title eludes to, We Did It is just them messing around on stage live, and the other song is a scat song that will make you chuckle but that's about it. This gets two stars strictly for the live songs which although they are horrible production quality it is still cool to hear how gnarly these tracks will sound in a live setting. I don't regret the purchase considering it's like $10 but it was a little disapointing that the unreleased stuff weren't actual songs.

Buy it!!!!!! Or Die!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grind On This Freaks!, March 19, 2006

If you're looking for a real brutal vicious grind/death metal assault with sickening vocals, meaty guitar riffs, and jackhammering drums that'll make you want to punch someone in the face and raise some hell to, well you have come to the right place with The Red Chord's new album "Clients". This is their second album (their first with Metal Blade), and it's a great follow up to their highly acclaimed debut "Fused Together in Revolving Doors" (which I'll be looking forward to getting in the near future). This was the first Red Chord album I purchased, and I must say that I was blown away by the sheer grinding brutality of the band's sound. Guy Kozowyk's vocals are just brutal and vicious as hell. The guitars shred and grind through the listener's ears like a chainsaw, and the blastbeats are like a jackhammer pounding the head and face to a bloody pulp. My favorite songs are "Fixation On Plastics", "Lay The Tarp", "Black Santa", and "Antman". Every song is great, but those are my favorites.

The song ratings:

1. Fixation On Plastics - 5/5

2. Lay The Tarp - 5/5

3. Black Santa - 5/5

4. Antman - 5/5

5. Clients - 4/5

6. Upper Decker - 5/5

7. Hospice Residence -5/5

8. Dragon Wagon - 5/5

9. Love On The Concrete - 5/5

10. Blue Line Cretin - 5/5

11. He Was Dead When I Got There - 5/5

If you think Atreyu and As I Lay Dying are brutal, These guys will destroy your world. Whoever says The Red Chord are metalcore should be beaten senesless. This is pure in your face grind/death metal with a touch of hardcore. Overall if you're a fan of Napalm Death, Glass Casket, Pig Destroyer, Converge, Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy, Cattle Decapitation, or just heavy music in general, The Red Chord is definately for you. Buy this album now. STAY METAL!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An expectantly more mature release., May 17, 2005
This review is from: Clients (Audio CD)
When i first popped "clients" into my cd player a couple of weeks ago, i was immediately overwhelmed with a barrage of heavy pseudo breakdowns and extremely technical riffs, a trademark i expected from the red chord. But very quickly i realized that this album is much different than "fused together in revolving doors", very different indeed, while at the same time maintaining their very distinct sound. Being an avid fan of "fused..", i did not really get into to the album again until i saw them perform a lot of the new tracks, since then, the album has not left my cd player.

The album does sound different than their first release, but it is a vey expected healthy progression for such a talented band. This album really displays their ability to play music as a group, all aspects of the music, the production, the vocals...everything is near perfection. This album is equally as good, if not better, than their first release. To me, this album shows that the red chord is a serious talent that has not yet reached their full potential, the complexity yet simplistic heaviness that simultaneously coincide will hit you like a jackhammer and take your breath away. It's an utter barrage of pure organized metal chaos...and it's beautiful. Very highly recommended!
