Book Description

December 14, 2010
A cult phenomenon among those who work in graphic, print and web design - and those lucky enough to have discovered the namesake blog - Clients From Hell has been bringing readers to tears with its unbelievable and always hilarious anecdotes from the twenty and thirty-somethings on the frontlines of design. In print for the first time, this collection brings together the same type of original stories that make the blog a hit and exposes the designer's trade for what it really is: new, misunderstood and often unappreciated. Read the quotes, bizarre requests and elaborate communication failures that are all part of the daily life of working with clients. With anonymous submissions from over a thousand creative freelancers, Clients From Hell sheds an insider's perspective on difficult - and all-too-often irrational and insane - interactions with clients. Anyone who has ever worked with clients may find these tales frighteningly familiar. New designers may think twice about their chosen profession - or at least find relief in the fact that they're not alone in absurd client interactions. And non-designers? Well, they'll just feel grateful - while they laugh and discover the new and uncharted territory of miscommunication.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great content, bad formatting for Kindle February 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this after seeing it in the Kindle blog. Funny, funny stories and quotes! Being a freelancer myself, I've heard it all before and seeing other people dealing with the same nonsense I've seen throughout my career made me feel like I wasn't crazy after all!

As for the formatting of the Kindle book... it was not so good. Missing headings, bad spacing in spots, a weird TOC at the end...just strange. If not for that, I'd have given the book 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of a long-standing favorite blog January 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A few months ago, the Clients From Hell team started pumping out all sorts of new swag: coffee cups, t-shirts, day-ruining invoices. None of it has yet to really sell me. The book, however, I had to have. Sure enough, it doesn't disappoint: many of the initial hits that made Clients From Hell a blog worth watching are reprinted next to newer posts that I hadn't seen before. The book also contains a longer submission -- a few thousand words, I imagine -- about a young designer going through one of the worst client episodes I've ever heard of. It's nice to see the CFH team branching out to larger narrative: five stars.

When I found the website, I immediately became addicted and went through every single page. I bought the book hoping for new stories. However, except maybe half a dozen or so, it's all the same posts as on the website. Additionally, the formatting on the Kindle is wonky. A lot of them aren't separated and several are repeated. If you weren't familiar with how they're formatted on the website, it would be totally confusing. Overall, disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny As Hell February 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not a designer and was unfamiliar with the CFH blog, I just happened across this book by accident. I have, however, had experience being the lucky one assigned to design the website (with no training) for a company I worked for with my boss being the CFH. I loved this book and all the anecdotes. I laughed my way through most of it and it was really nice to know that professionals have to explain about "the Internets," too. A lot of the stories can apply to plain old customer service based jobs as well. Anyway, it was a hoot and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious May 10, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a great idea for a book. Any designer should relate to theses experiences, and it's great to know that you are not alone when dealing with crazy clients. I leave it on my desk, and it becomes a great conversation piece when I'm meeting with a client.

5.0 out of 5 stars GUARANTEED TO MAKE YOU LAUGH! March 4, 2011
By BookMD
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Can you re-upload the photos on my site? I think they're fading from so many people clicking on them."

"We were wondering if you could possibly use snowflakes that look a little more masculine."

"Just make it more good."

"I will pay you when my website becomes popular like Facebook. For now, you can just work on it."

"You don't need to go to art school to know that blue and yellow don't go together."

This book is laugh-out-loud funny, in a horrible kind of way. It is has mostly graphic design stories, but it should be required reading for anyone who is freelance or solopreneur. I'm looking forward to giving away copies! Like much great reading, it's perfect for the bathroom.

The bottom line is: It's THEM, not you!

5.0 out of 5 stars CFH On the go... March 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a designer, and throughout my carreer I have had a few Clients from Hell myself... I was well aware of the CfH website, and got quite a few laughs from it. Now I have the "crème de la crème" of quotes on the iPad for immediate and ubiquitous access. Sweet! Thanks for making a book and the Kindle edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to the CFH line-up February 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
In addition to supplying endless laughs, Clients From Hell reminds us about what to watch for in the field. I've been designing for several years now and while I sometimes think that I've heard it all, Clients From Hell never ceases to surprise me. A great book for designers and creative professionals -- highly recommended.
