![]() Natural Protein? Naturally! So while an extra lean top sirloin steak or an organic chicken breast are great sources of protein, it's not always convenient to throw those in your briefcase or gym bag. That's why it's helpful to have a Clif Builder's Bar on hand as a portable source of great-tasting natural protein that has ingredients you know and trust. Make Protein Work Harder For You The best time to grab a Clif Builder's Bar is within 30 minutes of completing a workout or competition--the protein helps your muscles recover quickly and gets you ready for the next training session. More protein also helps your body repair cuts, wounds, strains, stress fractures, broken bones, and other problems, which shortens the time you'll be on the sideline. By far the best-tasting protein bar I've ever had,
By Eduardo Nietzsche (Houston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clif Bar Builder's Bar, Chocolate Mint, 2.4-Ounce Bars, 12 Count (Health and Beauty)
...the only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it uses soy protein instead of whey protein. Whey is supposed to be the best type of protein available, much more easily absorbed in the human body.
However I am happy to report that I've never experienced stomach upset or any other problems from eating these bars, so maybe my digestive system is better than most. I HAVE had a few issues (gas and bloating) from eating a meal with a lot of soy products, notably tofu, so I know the rap on soy is not unjustified. Otherwise, I highly recommend this bar. I eat it after lifting weights at the gym, it ties me over for a good hour or two before I have a normal meal, which can be of a slightly smaller size at that point. Tastes infinitely better than MetRx, Powerbar Protein Plus, Myoplex Deluxe (yuck! by far the grossest). Only Detour protein bars can compete with this bar taste-wise, but Detour seems more suited for someone on a low-carb regimen whereas this Builder's Bar is more balanced between protein and carbs. Of course the fact that it's mostly organic and doesn't have the dreaded high fructose corn syrup is wonderful. btw, you can get these cheaper in the 24 pack at a Sam's Club or Costco, though they only have two flavors, Peanut Butter and Chocolate.

Definitely one of the best tasting protein bars available...,
By J. Brooks (Nampa, Idaho United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) And the one thing that I really like is that when I read the ingredients, I actually know what the stuff is! Nothing weird or unnatural, just real ingredients! Out of the four flavors available (Chocolate Mint, Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Cookies `n Cream) I prefer the Chocolate Mint and Peanut Butter, mainly because they taste even less like a protein bar. I'm not saying the plain Chocolate and Cookies 'n Cream are bad tasting, just that I prefer the taste of the Chocolate Mint and Peanut Butter ones (they are all really tasty). These are just awesome, 100% natural, high protein, real ingredients, and they taste great! I just love them! A bit of product info: Chocolate Mint: 32% organic ingredients Chocolate: 33% organic ingredients Cookies `n Cream: 35% organic ingredients Peanut Butter: 35% organic ingredients Side note: Do not buy these expired (like on eBay or in-store)! Since these bars do not contain any preservatives they can loose their freshness and vitamin potency quickly and can develop a simple bread mold. It is recommended that they be eaten within a month of their sell by date (they are guaranteed to be fresh one month passed the sell by date printed on the wrapper).

No one would recommend substituting a builder bar or the like for a proper meal, or to rely on such foods as a solution for poor eating habits, but having my teen grab a Clif Builder's bar at least provides him something better than vending machine fare on those days when he dashes off to school without breakfast. I ask him to take an apple, banana, bag of raw nuts/seeds, etc. too, but the Clif Bar is usually the first consumed. It helps get him to lunch at least, and helps prevent the mental lows that can otherwise occur with insufficient protein intake. At 20 grams protein, the bar provides approximately 40% of the daily value for protein (based on a 2000 calorie diet). I play tennis 3-5 times weekly, and keep a couple Clif Builder's bars in my tennis bag (they store well) for times when I don't have immediate access to other protein sources needed for post-match muscle repair or recovery. I order 2 dozen through Amazon "Subscribe & Save" (free shipping), which results in a cost per bar significantly lower than Walmart, CostCo, etc. I select a longer-length fixed schedule that doesn't result in an over-supply for my family, and then order when I see the supply running low. I click the option to use the current date as the basis for determining the next scheduled ship date. For those who find builder bars useful, Clif is a good one: tastes very good, natural ingredients, higher protein than most, and more affordable via Amazon Subscribe & Save.
