3.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, but high prices on Amazon
I love Clif Bars (all flavors). I think they all taste good! I am however I little surprised at some of the prices on Amazon. It seems like most sellers list the bars at slightly over $1.00. I buy Clif Bars individually at Trader Joe's in New York where they are sold for $0.99. It might not seem like a big difference but a savings of 5 or 10 cents per bar adds up over the...

Clif Bars are high-density energy bars, designed to replace the fuel your body needs during demanding workouts. I use them during adventure racing, mountain climbing, and kayaking. They are excellent compared to all the other "power" type bars that are available. These are not "healthy snacks" for couch potatoes to smack on while watching TV. Do that and it'll end up on your butt! Used for the intended purpose, and when purchased fresh, these deserve the 5-star rating I've given.

I buy the variety pack at my local [...], and the price is lower than Amazon's gold box special price. The other advantage of purchasing food in a brick and mortar store is that you can verify the product expiration date. Several reviewers complained about this product being stale and/or out-dated. I've purchased other food products from Amazon and have also noted they are pushing close to the expiration date, meaning that one needs to consume a case of food within a week or two before it expires. Buyer beware.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great! I do have flavor preferences...., June 24, 2008
Some of the complaints about the Clif bars seem kind of silly to me. These aren't meant to be all that you eat during the day. They're a filling 250 calorie snack or a decent breakfast with some juice or fruit . They have 5 grams or so of fiber and 10 grams or so of protein, which is great. Um, yes they have salt and fat, but not large amounts. They are 20% fat, which is great unless you're on an extremely low-fat diet. They have 6% of your daily sodium, so if you ate 8 clif bars to get yourself 2000 calories for the day, you'd have less than half the recommended sodium maximum. They are dairy-free and wheat-free (but not gluten-free, per their own website due to oats and barley malt). They're not that expensive when you consider the size and the "special ingredients." But, if you don't need to avoid dairy and wheat, they are a bit pricey. As has been mentioned, they are on the dense side, but not exceedingly so, and they're less chewy than a granola bar.

So far, I've tried 6 flavors of Clif bars. In order of preference, they are: cool mint chocolate, chocolate peanut butter crunch, oatmeal raisin walnut, black cherry almond, chocolate chip, peanut butter crunch. All of them were fine, and I could eat them, but the peanut butter crunch was a bit too sweet for my tastes. The chocolate chip was fine, but didn't impress me as much as the others. The remaining 4 I'd buy again. My favorite, the cool mint chocolate bars have a subtle mint taste, definitely there, but not overly strong. These aren't super sweet like a cookie, but do have a nice taste. The black cherry almond reminds me of a nutri-grain bar in flaor. The chocolate peanut butter crunch and oatmeal raisin almond both are not too sweet and a nice flavor.

I do wish that Amazon had a real variety pack, like with 1-2 bars each of all the flavors. And, it'd be nice if Amazon sold a single 12-pack, as 24 of the same kind is A LOT. The only reason I was willing to risk getting 24 each of 2 new flavors I'd never had was that they had a special offer on energy bars at the time, so that I got extra money off. At regular price, I'd be unlikely to be willing to buy 24 of the same kind in an unknown flavor. The fact that you have to buy 24 identical bars (except for the variety pack which has 8 each of 3 similar flavors) is what made this review 4 star instead of 5 star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegan Natural Kosher Choice, August 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Clif Bar Energy Bar, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, 2.4-Ounce Bars, Pack of 12 (Health and Beauty)
Vegan. Natural. Kosher. Made with 70% Organic Ingredients. I am a big fan of vegan (white) chocolate and macadamia nuts. I also like many varieties of Clif Bars. So what could be better than a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Clif Bar?! Finely chopped mac pieces are blended into a dense, chewy, & satisfying energy bar. Small chunks of white chocolate and drizzle topping give a nicely sweet flavor. Prominent vanilla flavor note is enjoyable. Also try warming the bar slightly for a dreamy soft treat. 240 Calories per bar. Kosher D from processing on shared equipment. Hopefully Amazon will keep this flavor in stock for all to enjoy. Highly recommended. This review is out there for those for whom this makes a difference. See all of my reviews and the vegancompassion Profile for more great choices. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great, healthy and tasty! But not perfect..., June 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm not a health nut by any means. I work out once or twice a week if i'm lucky, eat take out every day, and work at an office job for 10+ hours each day. However, this snack is a great breakfast replacement since i rarely have time to stop somewhere on the way to work for a bite. It figure it's healthy enough and some of the flavors taste good. Some of the flavors taste not so good. Hence, why Clif bar is hardly a perfect food.

The flavors i've tried in recent memory are Peanut butter, Peanut butter chocolate chip, chocolate chip, and chocolate brownie. Of these, the best is by far Chocolate chip. Chocolate brownie was probably the worst. I found it still ok just because it had cholocate in it and i happen to really like chocolate, but i certainly wasn't fooled into thinking i was eating a brownie. It was more like cud with chocolate essence.

Peanut butter has a strong peanut buttery flavor which could probably be great if you really like peanut butter. I thought it was good most of the time but was my least favorite from the "Variety pack". It just seemed like there were way too many peanut butter related flavors in there. Peanut butter chocolate chip was a solid flavor that was a notch above peanut butter but below the regular chocolate chip. The chocoalate chips seemed to offset some of the strong peanuty taste.

In the past two months i've eaten an entire variety pack (24 bars i think) and 1 box of chocolate brownie (12 bars). I still have 12 bars of chocolate brownie to go, but i'm going to get another box to reduce the monotony of chocolate brownie.

If you intend on eating a lot of clif bars, like i do, i would suggest buying more than one flavor. Even the best flavor will get tiring after a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clif Bars in general, November 30, 2010
Clif bars are great tasting and have some good vitamins/ingredients. I would like to see them make the packaging fit the bar though. The bar has gotten smaller over the years, but the package has stayed the same size. Just kind of annoying. It makes me feel like the company wants the customer to believe the bar in larger. Also, several other companies are lowering the sugar content without compromising taste. I believe Clif could do this as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars YUM!!, October 12, 2009
This review is from: Clif Bar Energy Bar, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, 2.4-Ounce Bars, Pack of 12 (Health and Beauty)
These bars are DELICIOUS!!

I've tried most flavours & most of the flavours are delicious, but my fave flavours would have to be white choc macadamia nut, maple nut & oatmeal raisin.

Maple nut has chunks of white chocolate all the way through the bar & reminds me of an iced donut except with different texture!! YUMMY!!!
oatmeal raisin reminds me a bit of a yummy soft oatmeal raisin cookie.

The only flavour I DON'T really like is carrot cake. I usually LOVE carrot cake but this flavour taste's nothing like carrot cake!

But besides carrot cake the rest are nice...(especially white choc macadamia nut, maple nut & oatmeal raisin...MMMMMM!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty Energy Bar, March 18, 2006
This review is from: Clif Bar Energy Bars (Misc.)
Clif Bars are amoung the best tasting energy bars I have ever tried. They may not pack as many calories or grams of protein as other brands, but there have been times where I could not even finish a competeing bar because of dismal taste or texture.

I love Clif Bars (all flavors). I think they all taste good! I am however I little surprised at some of the prices on Amazon. It seems like most sellers list the bars at slightly over $1.00. I buy Clif Bars individually at Trader Joe's in New York where they are sold for $0.99. It might not seem like a big difference but a savings of 5 or 10 cents per bar adds up over the year if you are eating 1 or more Clif Bars every day. I'd recommend buying them at Trader Joe's and if you don't have a Trader Joe's in town then try to search some local stores.
In short, Clif Bars are excellent and I recommend them to endurance athletes or those looking for a healthy and tasty way to curb hunger while losing weight.

This item went up in price at Amazon, so even with the Subscribe and Save price it is way out of line with what I pay at the grocery store. I had to drop this item from my Amazon autoship list.
