A very good product that always helps me out when I'm dragging up that too long hill. Nice refreshing taste. A consistency a bit softer than a gummy bear. I suck on them, rather than chew them up. Product has a long life and resists the heat of the trails. Plus these blocks are easy to use. Do a block and store the rest in a pouch for later use, with no gooey mess. I carry a pack or two and throw a few packs in my stashes and I'm ready to ultra boogie.
The gels and gues packs get to me, and on long ultra races I used to fight gut problems from too much sugar consumption. These blocks seem to have less sugar in them, or long chain carbos, however you want to label it. These blocks appear to cause less gas and bowel discomfort.
The extra sodium of these margarita blocks seems to help and I find I can do without as much electrolyte supplement. I've bought four boxes of these in the past two years.

Sometimes I go on long rides just because I want to eat Clif Shot Blocks, they are like fruit snacks for adults! I love the flavor and texture, I actually even like them a little better when they are just a little stale. I like them much better than the goo because you actually feel like you are eating something and they are enjoyable the first time you try them, getting used to the goo takes a while.
The new packaging (they used to come in more of a fruit snack bag) is great, but make sure you cut the top before you start your activity, otherwise they are hard to get out. Also, keep in mind that each package is two servings so pace yourself accordingly.

I enjoy a good run or a long session on the rowing machine and I've noticed that having a product like this can really make a noticeable difference in my energy during the workout. I've tried Honey Stinger, Cliff Shot Bloks, and Gu Chomps, here's my take on all 3.
Cliff Shot Bloks - I first had these during the Tough Mudder and I liked them right away, they're my go to and I give them 5 stars all the way. I've had strawberry and black cherry and black cherry is the flavor that has the bigger dose of caffeine. Oddly enough, it also is the single best tasting flavor of any energy chew that I've found. The packaging is more of a stick of stacked, large gummies versus a bag of loose gummies like Gu Chomps and Honey Stingers. It has the best flavor, the best kick, and the best packaging of all 3 I've tried. I love them.
Honey Stinger - There's really nothing wrong with this product, I just don't like it quite as much as the others. The limeade flavor has a pretty noticeable honey flavor to it and I feel like it clashes with the other flavors. Pink lemonade is a much better flavor but does not contain caffeine, I was bummed about this as it's pretty amazing just how much a little caffeine can help out with cardio.
Gu Chomps - This is a good product that I really do like, I give it 4 stars and it's easily my second favorite. I've tried strawberry (standard dose of caffeine) and peach tea (double shot of caffeine) and the strawberry tastes much better. The peach tea isn't bad, and the kick is nice, but the taste does leave a little something to be desired. Still, it's pretty good and I like the product (both flavors) quite a bit. They are also packaged in a bag but its a smaller bag and it's a little nicer to carry on a run.

I bought the Clif Bloks to use while training for a marathon. I still use mostly energy gels but these bloks are a good addition in that they can be taken one cube at a time (there are a total of 6 cubes in one pack), and you can keep sucking on a single piece for some time. This helps keep some juice going into your system at a slow and controlled pace. I find that a combination of gels at the top every hour and one piece of these bloks at the bottom of every hour gives my system adequate nutrition during a long run. Of course, choosing between gels and bloks, and the interval to take them at, is an entirely person decision for everyone.
Quick feedback on these blocks:
1. The margarita flavor has significantly more sodium than all the other flavors - helps eliminate cramps from long runs/training sessions. The taste is a nice refreshing margarita taste without the alcohol. Regardless of which flavor I use, I find the taste and feel of these bloks more fresh than sticky gels. Also, they are far easier on the stomach - this is an important factor for people who don't take gels because they make the stomach queasy - these bloks are easier on the tummy.
2. These don't need to be washed down with water, like energy gels do. This feature is helpful in races when you don't need to worry about getting to a water stand.
3. The bloks have a gummy bear texture, which makes them enter the bloodstream slower than semi-liquid energy gels. This should be kept in mind when using the bloks - you don't want to take these too late because they will kick in after another 30-45 minutes or so once they enter your system.
4. Packaging - I initially found the packets too long to carry comfortably in a Fuel Belt. But now I basically keep half packets (opened) in my fuel belt along with regular energy gels. This way I can take out a cube from the open packet with ease. If you are using these while biking and don't want to bother breaking each cube, you can break the cubes in advance and put them back in the packaging before starting your ride. Another plus of these bloks is that I no longer need to carry salt packets separately. I personally wish these came in smaller pack sizes, but I understand that they probably wanted to keep each pack at a even 100 calories.
If you're looking for a fuel belt that can accommodate an entire packet along with some energy gels or other stuff, the "Fuel Belt Speed Runners Waistpack" is the right size.
All in all, I find these bloks to be a great supplement to energy gels in replenishing electrolytes, carbs, and sodium. They have a great flavor, texture, are easier on the stomach, and have good nutrient replenishment that you normally need during long workouts/runs/rides. Hope this helps!

Clif shot bloks are an excellent way to replenish your body with some carbs if you're on a long run (> 1 hr). I tried some of the gels and I just didn't like the taste or their stickiness; clif shot bloks were the answer for me. They taste great, you eat 3 blocks of them every 40-60 minutes, and chase them with water. They kind of remind me of gummy bears - they taste just as yummy, but they are not as chewy so are easier to eat when running.

I used this for the first time while doing a half marathon trail run. The run itself was 13.3 miles (just over the regulation half marathon distance) and had a climb of just under 1800 ft. I ate a few of these along the way and had no problems chewing and swallowing while running at the same time. Having run this trail before and having hit "the wall" at about Mile 9 or so, these definitely saved me from hitting the wall the second time around and gave me the boost I needed to fly through the last mile and a half of rolling hills and on to the finish line. If you're not used to having a burst of caffeine, you might want to look at the other Shot Bloks flavors because some have caffeine and some don't.

I find these very helpful as very quick energy boosts on 4-hr mountain bike rides in the mountains. Eating 2-3 of these just before a 1000-2000+ ft technical climb with exposure seems to help, particularly with gnarly, rocky hairpin turn after turn. I don't use these for running, but then I only run 4-6 miles at a time. They taste yummy (think gummy bears) and don't need a lot of water to get down, unlike other energy snacks. A minor problem is that the package is not recloseable if you don't eat all of them in one sitting. That problem barely matters because the package is easily foldable, and the shot blocks are never messy (even with the sun beating down on them in your pack) unlike some snack bars that get decidedly squishy, unrecognizable, and hard to remove the wrapping. You can save an opened package for easy eating on another adventure without worrying about a mess. The review by another who complained about the lack of a fast tear-off should be balanced with the fact that you don't need a lot (or any) water to get this down. You can dump several into your mouth if you're in a hurry, and chew as you're moving. I've tried all of the flavors, and I highly recommend the orange, cranrazz, and cola is surprisingly tasty.
PROS: Work faster than other energy snacks. Totally yummy! Small, quick, non-messy energy that really helps on tough trails!!! No mess! No need for water to get it down!
CONS: No fast tear-off packaging. Your buddies will want some when you open a package.
BOTTOMLINE: Worthwhile energy boost on demand

If you have a problem stomaching energy gels, then Shot Bloks are the cure for your rock bottom blues! Of all flavors, Lemon Lime is easiest to consume while my heartrate is pounding while I am racing down a trail. Any endurance athlete should give these a try. They are like little psychedelic carb-loaded finger jellos of power. They are addictive.

After struggling with my gag reflex and versions of gu, I went to shot bloks and have never looked back! I love them. I've consumed them while mountain climbing and running long distances. When I'm super exhausted my appetite wanes, but I'm always able to eat a couple of these to keep me going when nothing else sounds appetizing. I also have to hand it to Clif for making the packaging convenient - it's easy to keep on the move and eat these.

I love the strawberry flavor. These are great for biking because they are easy to eat even if you are wearing gloves, you can eat as many or as few as you want and put them back in your jersey, and they are very quick to chew and swallow. They are a great alternative to energy gels.
