Great book on Washington - we had a trip there last year and my daughter was able to relive it in this book.

Clifford is a delight for all of us and my grandsons loved going to DC to see the Washington Monument, the White House and the other sights pictured in the book.

My sons love Clifford the Big Red Dog but for some reason they were not very interested in this book. I think part of it was the monuments - they don't quite yet understand (they are 3) what they are even though we live in the area and they've seen them. I was surprised at that because we can remember a sign we saw 5 months ago but they weren't interested in the monuments.

Anyway, Clifford tags along with a friend who saves a boy and gets to go to DC to get an award. It follows Clifford throughout DC. Clifford and Emily Elizabeth do some sightseeing and then Clifford jumps the fence at the White House and gets jumped on my the Secret Service. The first lady - who looked a lot like Laura Bush to me - stops them when she realizes that Clifford is friends with the dog getting the award.

I think I will put it away for a while and maybe we will see the monuments again and mention what Clifford saw. It might make it more fun the next time we read it.
