I found the content review in this book quite helpful, especially the terminology review. It was a focused listing, which was much more useful than just sitting down and reading a dictionary of literary terms. One big problem I had with the book, though, was with the practice test. Granted, I was ecstatic to have a full-length practice test so that I could practice my pacing as well, but some of the answers in the answer key were just plain WRONG. One of them actually said that a line of pure iambic pentameter has 14 syllables! Also, at least one of the answers in the answer key had the letter for one answer, and the description supporting another. I only took the practice test for 0041, so I don't know how the others were.

The book was useful for me, especially since the only "textbooks" I have to study from are anthologies that don't go over the basic vocabulary; just BEWARE that SOME OF THE PRACTICE TEST ANSWERS ARE WRONG, so make sure you read all the answers and explanations, but don't use the practice test as your only study tool. The study guide parts of the book, though, are quite beneficial for a brush up on your basics (and some not-so-basics), especially of vocabulary.

Used this book exclusively for the Praxis II review for Middle School Language Arts. Felt that the suggestions, overviews, summaries and suggested book list in the resource section were very helpful in getting me organized to study for the test. I highly recommend this as a tool for studying. Found the two full length practice tests very helpful, unlike other study guides, I was able to practice pacing myself in a realistic practice test. I just took the Praxis and felt that the format and advice offered in this book helped make the test less stressful and allowed me to use my relatively short time (4 weeks) productively. I expect to pass with flying colors!

This book was very helpful. It's examples were dead on and I knew exactly what to expect when I got to the test. The ETS guides were no help at all, but this got me through both of my English Praxis (0041 & 0043) with flying colors.

I decided to take the English PRAXIS to become "highly qualified" to teach secondary English to students with special needs. Since I am not working towards a degree in English, I discovered this book provided me with a great overview on literature, English terminology and linguistics.

There are two aspects of this book that I found frustrating. First, it only provided one practice test of the exam I was taking (English Language, Literature and Composition: Content Knowledge 0041). Secondly, the text provides no information on how the test is scored! Although I could take the practice test and work on my timing, I had no idea what my score was or if I even passed. And like other previous reviewers have said, you have to double check the answer key. There are few errors.

Despite only practicing once and having no idea what I scored on my practice exam, I did pass the actual test! So, I suppose the practice and provided content knowledge was quite beneficial! Good buy!

This text was all I needed to pass (with an outstanding score) the Middle School English Language Arts Praxis II (1049). It is the most comprehensive and accurate guide I found, and the only one I ended up using! The study outlines were thorough yet manageable, full of the range of information potentially included on the actual test. I was well prepared to test myself with the follow-up sample tests included in this resource. This text also provides thorough follow-up study for any items missed on the sample tests. An added bonus - the text will continue valuable as an outstanding classroom reference tool.

Despite the 0041 test being very obscure, the preparation questions and tests in this book helped me more than adequately prepare for the Praxis II exam. In fact, I was able to get obtain the highest score possible. I doubt that would have been possible without this resource. Thank you!

Don't waste your money on expensive test preps. The Cliffs TestPrep Praxis II has everything you need. Not only does it give an example of what you can expect, but it also has advice on how to prepare, what else you can do after you finish with the study book, and pointers on how to take the test to be the most successful. It also has several practice tests with answers and explanations--(Wow! a test with assessment!) There are also examples of what you can expect on the written portion of the tests as well as examples of writings that recieved full score. This is definitely a Must Have book for studying for the Prxis II: English. Easy to read, well organized, quick feedback, and helpful test taking strategies.

I used this guide alone to study for my Praxis II for middle school language arts. You have to know which Praxis number test you'll be taking, and that'll show you which area test you need to study. This study guide contains several test versions.

Although this book was extremely helpful in my preparation for format and some content, I was surprised to find that the Praxis itself contained NOTHING at ALL from ANY book! It must be a problem with the Praxis, though, because this is the only study tool I used and I retained a lot of info from it, finally scoring a 198 out of 200. The good thing is, this study guide contains a great deal of practice tests to help you with your timing, which I hear is one of the biggest struggles in taking the Praxis.

Overall, if you need to take the Praxis II, this is the study guide to use.

This really helped me in preparing for the Praxis II exam. Some of the questions from the study guide were actually on the test. The only thing that I didn't see on the exam regarded pentameters (or stressed/unstressed feet in poetry) and the study guide stressed this. So if you do get this book, don't worry about those. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone taking the test!

The book starts with some good test taking strategies and the content review is concise and well organized. Even though there was only one test per assessment area this book covered--I took the book's suggestion and took all of the tests since there is so much overlap in subject area.

I haven't taken the test yet, but I'm feeling much better about it after using this book. I definitely recommend it.
