5.0 out of 5 stars This one takes the cake
I read everything in this book--twice--over the course of one week before the test. It includes every theorist, theory, law, strategy, etc. you could possibly need to know for the PLT. I took ALL of the multiple choice for practice, even the ones that were well beyond my grade level for licensure. The book not only provides the correct answers, but it also includes an...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid test review
I used this book to study for the PLT and I probably studied it through and through for about two weeks prior to the test. On the test day, I thought I blew the test out of the water, come to find however, I barely passed. However, I dont blame the review book on this, I personally believe the test is too sugjective and the graders are biased. This is an aside from the...

I read everything in this book--twice--over the course of one week before the test. It includes every theorist, theory, law, strategy, etc. you could possibly need to know for the PLT. I took ALL of the multiple choice for practice, even the ones that were well beyond my grade level for licensure. The book not only provides the correct answers, but it also includes an explanation for each correct answer. Do at least 7 of the case studies (but spread them out over a few weeks!), and study the responses that scored a 2, 1 or 0 (make sure you understand what constitutes a complete/incomplete/unacceptable answer). This book was the only thing I studied for the PLT, and I scored a 198. The key is TIMING -- DO NOT LOSE TRACK OF TIME! You have approximately 25 min. per case study (there are 4 total), and about 20 min. to complete 24 multiple choice questions. You start with two case studies, do one set of 12 multiple choice, do two more case studies, and end with 12 multiple choice. This book allows you to take several full-length practice tests, which will inevitably help you perfect your timing skills. With each section, I suggest that you jot down at the top of your test the time you started that section, along with the time you MUST be finished with it. Good luck!

This book is very well organized, gives the student/teacher plenty of practice tests, and provides a thorough review. It was the third test-prep. item I purchased. I only wish it would have been the first, as I would have needed to look no further!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great test review book for content summary, January 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CliffsTestPrep Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (Paperback)
I bought this book to prepare for the Praxis PLT 7-12 and found it extremely helpful. The content review section is extremely thorough and covers all of the material you need to know for the exam in a concise and organized manner. It made it easy and accessible to find info about different educational theorist rather than searching through a psych of teaching textbook. The review questions are also helpful and good for praxis. Definately, worth the buy if you need a review book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful!, February 8, 2007

I used this book to study for the 0041 and 0042 exams. I found the guide more accurate in predicting what types of questions would be on the 0042 exam than on the 0041. I found the 0041 exam questions to be more difficult than the sample questions in the book, but the book served as a good starting point for studying. If you're taking the 0041 exam, study the time periods religiously! This is probably the best guide out there that is not more expensive than the exam itself.

I ended up passing both exams with excellent scores!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for me!, April 6, 2007

I am pursuing an alternate licensure track in Ohio and needed to take the PLT 7-12 as part of the process. Although I finished a MA Ed degree in 2004, I didn't have the background in this material like current undergrads might. So I needed a sound text for not only review but also with important topics fleshed out for study. I read this book cover to cover twice and made review lists with major points to study starting one month prior to the test. I did all the multiple choice questions and reviewed the free response for all the age groups.

I just got my score and passed with a 179. Ohio's passing score is 165. This book works!

However, I dont blame the review book on this, I personally believe the test is too sugjective and the graders are biased. This is an aside from the review of the book, but a word to test takers, Im a Marine, and my philosophy on education is that of high expectations, accountability, responsibility, and structure. I think my responses didn't jive with the popular philosophy of education of the times. The test prep book is good on a whole, but be wary of how you respond

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful, June 14, 2007
This review is from: CliffsTestPrep Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (Paperback)
This book was much easier to use than the one from ETS. Information for each category on the test were easily accessible and clearly stated. The format for the case studies and multiple choice questions were exactly like the actual test. If you are looking for a book that is going to truly help you prepare for the PLT, this is it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Needs Some Changes to Make it 5 stars/Good PLT K-6 Review Guide, July 10, 2009
This review is from: CliffsTestPrep Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (Paperback)
This study guide was decent for the PLT K-6. It gave a great review of theorists, basic strategies for learning, and plenty of "buzz words" that are useful. However, the book refers to Chapters that are not included in the book. Also, if using this book as a study guide, I would suggest instead of writing just one example to the extended response, write two examples. On the PLT that I took, the questions always asked for two examples. This will help with time management, as that was the main problem that I noticed on test day. Also, the case studies in the book are shorter compared to the actual PLT test, so keep that in mind when timing yourself. Overall, the guide is decent for the PLT K-6, just extend the questions to include 2 examples and remember the case studies are longer on the real test. I did pass the test with flying colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, December 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This book is definitely the one to get! This book has TWO practice tests for each test, whereas the ETS book only has ONE test. This book also reviews important concepts and explains them clearly and in an organized fashion. Highly recommend!! The ETS book is not as helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Preparation Tool!, August 4, 2007
This review is from: CliffsTestPrep Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (Paperback)
This book was a very thorough study guide. The practice tests were very valuable, as was the extensive information regarding theorists and other information that was on the test. I just took my Praxis today, and I left feeling very confident, thanks to this book!
