This review is from: Clifton Chenier: The King of Zydeco (DVD)
This contains rare footage of the "Zydeco King", Chifton Chenier, performing live at the 1982 San Francisco Blues Festival, the 1977/78 New Orleans Jazz Festival, plus some local, Louisiana TV clips, interviews & more. This is great, fun, happy, party, music. You get the "King", singing lead vocals, and playing his accordian (squeeze box), plus his great, "Red Hot Louisiana Band" . His backing band contains, brass horn players, guitar players, bass guitar player, keyboards, drums, and even a "washboard" player. The "King" sings in English & in Louisiana Cajun French. When he sings in Cajun French, there is a caption in English at the bottom on the screen with the lyrics in English. Plus, he conducts some interviews in Cajun French, with English Captions at the bottom of the screen. The songs include: 1.Party Down 2.I'm a Hog For You 3.I'm the Zydeco Man 4.It's Christmas Time 5.Let the Good Times Roll 6.Caledonia 7.J'Aime Pain De Mais (I Love Cornbread) 8.Tu Le Ton Son Ton (Every Now & Then) 9.Cher Catin (Dear Girl) 10.Clifton's Zydeco 11.Louisiana Two Step 12.Black Gal The total running time is only around 58 minutes, but the performances are fantastic, and so are the interviews. Clifton Chenier was from my home state of Louisiana. This is a great DVD, and I do recommend it. Thanks!!!
