This review is from: Climax At Midway (Paperback)
There are a number of points to be considered when reading historic accounts which, as with this book, were first published almost 50 years ago. Firstly, numerous researchers have added considerable information to the worldwide melting pot of research since this book first appeared with much of that information being kept secret for many years and not, therefore, available at the time. Too much information, however, can often blur the overall picture of exactly what happened all those years ago. Secondly, we must not dismiss such works simply because of their age. Quite often we find original material in its rawest form and authors such as this one should always be credited with providing one of the very first useful accounts of whatever event they are covering.

In this case we also get a refreshingly readable style which almost paraphrases the Battle of Midway into an easy-to-understand series of complicated events. So much so that, if I were to recommend one single book to a person who wanted to know what Midway was all about but didn't have a clue, I could do a lot worse than tell that person to start here. This work gives an honest overview of a complex situation which existed in the Pacific during WW2. It explains the personalities and the tactics in a way that all are able to understand.

Only after having read a work such as this, will any "new" student of research feel the need for greater depth of study. It really is a good book.
