5.0 out of 5 stars climbing back-a honest look at the human side of cancer, February 19, 2000
This review is from: Climbing Back: A Journey With Cancer (Paperback)
After reading this remarkable journey of Mark Gerner, I felt that I can better understand the life choices and experiences of a cancer patient. His courage not only to have fought with cancer, but to write such an honest book gives him 5 stars! This book is a must for anyone who face trials-whether it be cancer or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cancer book, October 3, 2004
This review is from: Climbing Back: A Journey With Cancer (Paperback)
Wow, being on a cancer journey myself this is by far the best book I have read. It is so good I finished it in one afternoon. Lots of tears. Mark just really nails it. All the feelings and smells are so real. I would recommend this book for anyone going through cancer or with family and friends. It gives real insight. Or if you just want a great read and want to find out more about the cancer world. Its a must. Thanks Mark Gerner, Cathy Schwallie

5.0 out of 5 stars A personal, philosophical and technical approach to cancer., June 6, 1999
This review is from: Climbing Back: A Journey With Cancer (Paperback)
This book captures a repeated bout with cancer from various approaches and angles. Mark Gerner (COL) creatively exposes the reader to his personal insight and his first hand dealings with cancer, while also interjecting medical terms simplistically expressed within the text, to educate the reader about cancer and to help shed light on the darkness of the unknown. His sharing of very personal experiences reveals the tenderness and strength of a man, his family, and the truth of cancer. This is a must read to educate not only those who have cancer or know someone with cancer, but it is for those who need to read about facing an unimaginable feat, and be able to climb back and triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating true story!, May 24, 1999
This review is from: Climbing Back: A Journey With Cancer (Paperback)
Climbing Back is the fascinating story of Mark Gerner's incredible journey from everyday family and military career person to cancer survivor. In this book, the reader is transported from a life in full swing to life in the balance to a life that is barely recognisable and back again! Through his frank and honest writing, the author enables the reader to share the agony, the pain and the unknowns that he discovered during his periods of tragedy and recovery.

Mark Gerner openly shares his experiences, emotions and thoughts in a way that not only provide the reader with insight but with medical facts and a bird's eye view of the treatments he received. I finished this book with a greater understanding of what it means to be `treated' medically and a far greater respect and understanding for anyone whose life's journey is interrupted with this disease.

This book is a great read for anyone interested in personal triumph and a definite MUST READ for anyone who is, or knows, someone battling cancer.
