When You Need to Know, May 8, 2006
This review is from: Mayo Clinic on Prostate Health (Paperback)
This book tells what to expect during a typical prostate checkup. It discusses the PSA screening test. It explains the three common prostate disorders and the symptoms that accompany each and the treatment options.
To determine the best form of treatment, it identifies factors to consider and questions to ask your doctor. There is a chapter on potential side effects of prostate cancer treatment and how to manage those. It gives ways (diet and exercise) to reduce the risk of getting prostate disease.

Dishonest, biased, occasionally slightly useful, February 3, 2012
This review is from: Mayo Clinic on Prostate Health (Paperback)
The book is a superficial discussion of the 3 main prostate problems (BPH, prostatitis, cancer) and their treatment from a narrow viewpoint of an establishment physician. It completely ignores ALL natural preventatives, treatments, such as herbs, supplements, diets, environmental factors. It is also profoundly dishonest (or possibly extremely outdated) in that it ignores many of the severe consequences of certain drugs. For example, the author ignores the horrendous permanent side-effects of finasterade, such as permanent loss of libido and potency. Although injections into and around the prostate are an effective, cheap, minimally invasive treatment, the author dismisses them in a sentence or two.
The book is also irritating from poor writing and editing. For example, instead of specifics, the author routinely refers to "large" prostate, rather than having the courtesy of giving the info in cc volume to help the reader make intelligent decisions.
This book is a simplistic pastepot, but far worse, dishonest and incomplete.
It should be titled "A Simplistic, Biased, Dishonest, Superficial Guide to Prostate Health."
BTW, I strongly suspect this book was ghost-written. Which would mean the titular author even lied about his own purported authorship.
