The first in-depth textbook of its kind, this resource deals solely with the comparative anatomy and physiology of exotic species - small mammals, reptiles, and birds. For these commonly encountered species, it highlights clinical considerations for veterinary treatment. The book is heavily illustrated with clear line diagrams, radiographs, and color illustrations, explaining clearly the functioning of exotic species.
  • The first textbook to provide comprehensive coverage of the comparative anatomy and physiology of exotic species.
  • Written specifically to give the veterinary practitioner a better understanding of the functioning of exotic species.
  • Profusely illustrated with clear line diagrams, radiographs, and color plates.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Irish Veterinary Journal Vol. 59: March 2006

It porvides a concise and accessible overview of the basicanatomy and physiology of some of the more commonly encoutered exotic species.

' This book is written by an experienced exotic animal practitioner and lecturer for a veterinary surgeon in practice who deals with the occasional exotic patient. The main features concentrate on basic information regarding physiology, anatomym, and husbandry. The book contains many excellent and unique colour plates and radiographs for illustration. This will prove invaluable for locating sampling sites and internal and external anatomy for surgery, as well as necropsy. For quick reference the anmal classes are divided by colour coded pages. Within each chapter there is inforamtion on general and clinical anatomy and physiology of class, followed by more deatiled notes on individual species including some guidance on sexing, venepuncture sites and some clinical information. UI deal with many vets who do not treat exotic species on a regualr basis and I have recommended this book as a quick reference guide many times. In my view, this book is excellent value for money.'

2.0 out of 5 stars Too poor of informations, January 8, 2009
This review is from: Clinical Anatomy and Physiology of Exotic Species: Structure and function of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, 1e (Hardcover)
As veterinary physiologist i think this book is too poor of informations both on anatomical and physiological aspects of exotic animals biology. I think that a good zoology book could cover this arguments in a better way and for a clinical approach it's better a clinical orienteered book.
