Not-such-a-great classic,
By Geoffrey Trim (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology: Techniques and Interpretations (Hardcover)
Josephson is regarded as one of the semi-classic EP textbooks, but on the evidence of this edition, this may not be justified. The text is verbose, turgid and hard to read, and the numerous electrograms are poorly reproduced, making them hard to read and interpret. In retrospect, I'm not sure that this book was worth purchasing. The publishers need to clean up the text and improve the quality of the electrograms to make this a worthwhile purchase.

The third edition of this textbook is a definitive work on the art and science of nuts and bolts clinical electrophysiology. To practice competent invasive EP you need to understand pretty much everything written here, as a starting point.
I don't own the latest edition but have perused it several times at meetings. I don't think it compares to other books available that cover 3D anatomical mapping and newer technologies better. If you are an EP fellow, I would recommend getting an inexpensive 3rd edition of this book and look elsewhere for the more current technology. You don't want to end up being able to do AF ablations and not understand how to diagnose an antidromic AVRT.

Once a must-read, now a passable reference book,
By Typographer (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology: Techniques and Interpretations (Solution (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins)) (Hardcover)
The text is patriarchal. "I do", "I believe", "I think" prevails. He's the grandpa of electrophysiology, but I think he should retire from writing books. Better alternatives exist (Clinical Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology: A Companion to Braunwald's Heart Disease: Expert Consult: Online and Print (Expert Consult Title: Online + Print), Catheter Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias: A Practical Approach, Handbook of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Catheter Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias. If you like the comprehensive approach, go for Cardiac Electrophysiology: From Cell to Bedside: Expert Consult - Online and Print, by far THE reference book in EP.
Let the old man (and his obsolete book) retire in peace and stop haunt the EP fellows' nights.

Phenomenal book!
Very easy to follow and the illustrated electrograms are of very good quality. This is an essential book for all EP fellows in training. |
