5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional., February 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Clinical Infectious Disease (Hardcover)
I hated learning micro and infectious diseases in medical school. I went through 20 or so books in the library before I found this one. I kept it for 8 months until they forced me to return it.

I have found no other book that offers such a cohesive, succinct, and systematic analysis of infectious diseases. I am terrible at memorization, and this book provides intuition to recognize patterns that I had not seen in any other book. It provides an outstanding methodical/logical/efficient strategy for learning and thinking about diseases without getting lost in details. Its integration of pharmacology is one of its best attributes.

Some areas are written much better than others. For instance, pulmonary ID is lacking a bit (while oddly AIDS pulmonary is tremendous). Also, I wish it had more microbiology integration. However, even with these complaints, its still 5 stars.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone in medical school (and beyond although I can't say from experience). JUST LOOK AT THE PRICE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good review for ID boards, June 6, 2009
This review is from: Clinical Infectious Disease (Hardcover)
I bought this and another moderately-priced ID book to review for the ID boards. The other one I was dissapointed with. This one so far I have been very happy with. The information is detailed yet concise. It has information on just about every topic I need to review for the boards. I would highly recommend this book for any ID fellow looking for a good ID text book. In addition, while I love Mandell's, this one actually has more specific treatment recommendations, which I found quite useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing price for an amazing book, October 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Clinical Infectious Disease (Hardcover)
This book is a huge bargain at this price. It is much more comprehensive, bigger and thicker than I thought it would be. Nice colored pages, tons of graphs and pictures. It covers majority of ID topics in a pretty detailed way. After reading it one feels no need to open Mandel, maybe occasionally. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, September 22, 2009

It's a great book, simple, with many tables and easy notes, easy to read, great information on it and good sources like New England Journal of medicine
I think the only thing it needs to be just perfect is like more enphasis in some kind of infections like wich are the most common agents, prevalence, and stuff like that
But I really recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for infectious disease !!!, January 27, 2011

This review is from: Clinical Infectious Disease (Hardcover)
Okay, first, I'm a PharmD student, not an MD student. As you all know, pharmacy school is all about memorization until you cannot even function normally in your daily life. This textbook does make my life easier: less memorization, more about conceptions. There are many useful tables and comparison charts. One thing I found most useful was that the section "Specific organism" listed the antibiotics which can be used to treat specific organisms. So far so good. Highly recommend if you are so sick of memorizing days after days !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A textbook that has a story, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Clinical Infectious Disease (Hardcover)
This textbook is concise and easily readible. Chapters normally have a "story" to it so that you don't get lost in between the references and sentences. It is not to be used as a reference textbook (Mandell has that role). It is an excellent book for those people who can't absorb knowledge in bits and pieces and has to have the whole story with them so that they not only obtain the knowledge but also enjoy the story. Overall an excellent book and would highly reccomend to ID fellows, physicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, December 4, 2011

I confess I have not completely read this book at this time. Yet I have read about 10-15% of it and is complete, precise and well organized. As an ID fellow I can say this is the best book to start the fellowship and to maintain for future references. Highly recommended!
