5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource and Worth the Money
This volume presents skills from very basic to very complex which will be used in a variety of clinical settings. This volume is probably not something a novice would snap up because of the price, but it a reference that every practicing nurse would want on the shelf - novice or expert. I'm not impressed with this book, and have actually hardly ever used it even though it is required. It has a lot of information, and some color pictures, which is nice, but overall it is just crammed together and kinda confusing to find anything.

Good idea for the student's special Christmas present or the nurses' station.

4.0 out of 5 stars Class book, May 2, 2006
We actually use this as our lab book in class. It has procedures layed out step by step and has rationales for why you do it that way. It has been very helpful to us in class. Pretty easy to find what you're looking for, although I don't really like how they have the book divided up into sections.

I really enjoy reading this book and looking at the pictures of procedures being done on patients. I am entering an LPN program soon and I feel that this book will be a great asset to me during my studies and throughout my career. Much recommended to anyone interesting in the nursing profession.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good; could be clearer, October 26, 2008
The book is good and it provides rationale for why the skill needs to be done a certain way. I think it could be clearer though because the pictures overlap; you could be reading one skill and looking at a picture for a different skill which can be confusing the first time you're reading the material. And the CD-ROM is useless. It is just a checklist. So if you can get a used text without the cd--go for it. It'll probably be cheaper as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than many other skills books, March 5, 2008
By
This is an excellent book! I have other skills books but find I prefer this one hands down. Many times I find myself reading this when I'll say to myself "wow, that is a very important concept or clinical alert regarding this skill but other books did not clue me in on it." Also, the photos are excellent and it is a very well organized and comprehensive book. I don't think you'll be sorry for the investment because it is so helpful whether you are just learning or are already practicing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good..., July 8, 2009

This text tends to be more Basic, than Advanced.... The title is Basic to Advanced, perhaps it should be Basic up to Advanced. Having said that, if you are not a nurse or are a student nurse, it is a good skill book and the photos are helpful. A couple of suggestions might be: 1) depict an oxygen flowmeter that has a graduated scale with a ball as an indicator and how to read that instead of the obvious number. (Not all flowmeters are like this, in fact most you will come in contact with are the "ball in the column" variety) 2) Show how to position the plunger in a syringe to get an accurate reading for medication administration. Accuracy counts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clinical Nursing Skills Basic to Advanced, March 22, 2009
The book is very good, step by step instructions with pictures on performing very simple skills to performing very advanced skills. There wasn't a lot of information on trach suctioning though.
