It will be a great review book for my state boards in a few months.

The book is about 250 pages and for the most part is easy to read if you have a basic understanding of science and physiology.

I was told to get this for my nutrition course and at the time i bought it for 59gbp which killed me to part with it but having said that, this book is one of the best books i bought for my nutritional therapy course, well referenced and info seems to be backed up by more credible trials than other health books by the likes of murray and pizzorno.

This is where all doctors and nutritionists should start if they want to get their patients well. A functional Approach is a systems based approach that looks at underlying dysfunction in the bare bone metabolic systems in the body. It is about restoring balance and correcting deficiencies and toxicities first then providing nutrition support for detoxification and adaptive states of physiology when necessary. This is opposed to just throwing herbs or supplements at someones symptoms. Truly a great organization and a great book. The book is about 250 pages and for the most part is easy to read if you have a basic understanding of science and physiology. They break down everything really well. The book talks about the science of gut health, detoxification, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, energy and metabolism and other essential factors that must be understood before supplementing or introducing any type of protocol for a patient.

This is one of the most well-used books I have. I refer to it all the time - love it!. It contains superb detox pathway flow charts, great tables for food sources of all the vitamins and minerals, and includes food sources not commonly found on many tables and a plethora of other relevant visuals. No need to spend $300 bucks though!! Buy the book directly from the Institute for Functional Medicine - $59, or find a copy with a comparable price here. Not sure why it is so expensive through sources other than IFM. A great resource for anyone seriously practicing functional medicine or functional nutrition. The only downside is that it is getting old, 2004, and could use an update.
