This review is from: Clinical Methods and Practicum in Speech-Language Pathology (Hardcover)
This book is good but was a little too detailed. I have found other books that I like more (unless this is required for a class).

This review is from: Clinical Methods and Practicum in Speech-Language Pathology (Hardcover)
The authors describe the many tasks carried out by speech pathologists. These include a multicultural sensitivity, germane because for speech language pathology in the US, this is sometimes informally defined with respect to English language proficiency. So someone with another native language in a US school might be unfairly designated as needing speech therapy.
Various language disorders are explained. Therapies are provided, though mostly at a summary level. Some disorders have identified neurological or neurogenic origins, including from traumatic brain injury. Some disorders have very little treatments available, as the book makes clear. Which is unfortunate for the person with the disorder as well as the pathologist. But the book describes the current state of the art. |
