Providing the skills necessary for pharmaceutical care in a patient-centered pharmacy setting, this practical text covers skills including communication, physical assessment, history taking, patient case presentation, understanding of lab and diagnostic tests, therapeutic planning and monitoring, obtaining drug information, and pharmacy ethics. Case examples throughout the text show how skills are applied in clinical situations, and every chapter concludes with self-assessment questions. Chapters are also sequenced in a skill-building approach, so the development of each skill depends on the integration and application of previous skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for students., September 17, 1999
By A Customer
The book was reprinted: I got mine through Mosby/Harcourt (publishers). Its an excellent intro book for pharm students in first or second professional year. Written at the appropriate level for students, I especially like the chapters on DI, labs, physical assessment and presenting patients. I looked around before I found a book I would recommend and even the students admit it seems worth $30 (truly a criteria that's is important). I intend to use it to supplement the traditional DiPiro or Koda Kimble books, since they lack the "principles" of solving problem sections.

Overall, I think its worth having.

4.0 out of 5 stars Required text, January 1, 2007

This review is from: Clinical Skills for Pharmacists: A Patient-Focused Approach, 2e (Paperback)
I teach a pharmacy course called "Clinical Assessment" and have used Tietze's book for three years. It is a concise and easy to read intro to clinical assessment tools, such as physical exam, charting and presenting, lab interpretation, and problem solving. I like that it does not try to be comprehensive, allowing me to taylor the course in the way that I want and not be constrained by the outline of the text.

This was was exactly what I was looking for. The price was a lot better than what my book store was selling it for. Overall I think it was a good transaction.
