The Clinician's Guide to Gastrointestinal Oncology is a unique practical reference for the management of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and pre-malignant conditions. The high incidence of colorectal cancer coupled with the growing recognition of Barrett's esophagus has led to a growing need for a resource explaining how to screen and manage these and other patients with gastrointestinal neoplasia.

Dr. Michael Kochman, with contributions from other recognized experts of diverse gastrointestinal backgrounds, uses a multidisciplinary approach in presenting the necessary information to optimally manage patients. A balanced approach allows the reader to quickly synthesize an individualized care plan based upon the recommendations of highly skilled professionals. Part of The Clinician's Guide to GI Series, this text also serves as a reference for clinicians to be able to quickly discuss the epidemiology and natural history of these conditions.

The broad range of topics covered, combined with the breadth of knowledge shared from renowned experts, provides a full spectrum of information necessary to properly care for a wide range of patients. Helpful features include TNM staging tables that help the reader choose appropriate treatment options as well as color, radiographic, and endoscopic photographs that highlight significant clinical points.

The Clinician's Guide to Gastrointestinal Oncology is the ideal resource for internists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, and oncologists looking to keep pace with the latest treatment options for an array of neoplastic gastrointestinal conditions.

Topics Include:

  • Management of pre-malignant conditions of the GI tract including colonic polyps and Barrett's esophagus
  • The role of endoscopic and radiologic interventional techniques
  • Nutrition support
  • Pain management
  • Current strategies for the medical and surgical approaches to the GI malignancies

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A reference guide on gastrointestinal oncology claiming practical utility for the busy clinician while integrating the three specialties of gastroenterology, oncology, and surgery is a large undertaking which necessitates sufficient attention to each discipline. The Clinician's Guide to Gastrointestinal Oncology by Michael Kochman, MD, manages not only this, but more.

…a well-illustrated, well-referenced, and readable text.

The text is easy to follow…the summary sections are useful…

…(the book) will give a more current and holistic understanding to these specialties about the multidisciplinary approach to these patients.

Any clinician whose practice involves a good number of patients with GI malignancies would be well advised to keep this book in close proximity."

-Kuldeep Tagore, Practical Gastroenterology

"Because of the complexity of the field and the multiplicity of diagnostic and therapeutic options, a resource such as this book is certainly welcomed. The book does a good job covering the most recent evidenced-based medical therapy for each gastrointestinal malignancy. It also covers the surgical approach to these malignancies in a way that non-surgical specialists can easily understand. The color illustration section is a good compliment to the text. This is an excellent source of information on gastrointestinal oncology. The chapters are well written and have current, useful information that I can use in my practice."

-Antonio Bosch, MD, Doody Enterprises, Inc.

"In several chapters, the pathology and epidemiology of gastrointestinal malignant conditions and preneoplastic conditions are integrated into clear and concise reports on management strategies. By juxtaposing perspectives from several disciplines, this guide provides an opportunity for improved dialogue among specialists."

- Joanne K. Tobacman, MD, American College of Physicians
