How refreshing and thrilling it is to be totally consumed by these newly unearthed stories. Clint Eastwood Master Film Maker at Work provides genuine, first-hand accounts of Eastwood's filmmaking style and technique. Miraculously researched and illustrated throughout with an abundance of rare and previously unseen photos, production sketches and designs, Michael Goldman's book stands tall as an essential, authoritative work. Contained between its lavish 240 pages are over 60 original interviews with long time Eastwood collaborators such as Jack Green, Leonard Hirshan, Deborah Hopper, Robert Daly, Tom Stern, Buddy Van Horn, David Valdes and the late great Bruce Surtees. With insights provided by his loyal Malpaso crew and accounts from his closest friends, Goldman has successfully appraised the nature of Eastwood's dignified and simplistic approach to filmmaking. After reading some 50 titles on the man, never has a book on Eastwood ever provided such a definitive insider's guide. Don't hesitate in ordering it, you won't regret it...

This is a very nice book. It goes into detail about Clint Eastwood's directorial career and the films he has made. It covers just about all of Eastwood's films, up through "J. Edgar". Given the title, "Master Filmmaker at Work", the book focuses on Eastwood the director - there is very little text devoted to his acting.

The book has plenty of interesting facts about Eastwood's directing style, career choices, and the way he runs his set. It also has a lot of anecdotes from actors, writers and producers who have worked with Eastwood. In writing the book, the author interviewed many people who have worked with Eastwood; he also spent time of the sets of "Hereafter" and "J. Edgar" during production. The research and writing style is very good - this is about as comprehensive a book as you'd probably want. There is also a foreword by Steven Spielberg and a preface by Morgan Freeman.

In particular, I found the stories behind "Mystic River" and "Million Dollar Baby" to be very interesting - those are my favorite Eastwood films. Perhaps the best part of the book is the many images - there are many never-before-seen (at least by me) set photos of Eastwood interacting with his cast and working with his camera.

I got this book for my birthday, and it is by far the best present I received this year. It is beautifully done with lots of truly astounding photos that cover Clint's directorial career. This is really the only good source of information concerning this part of his work in film, which tends to be obscured by his amazing first career in acting. The book would be worth much, much more than its cost for the photos alone. Somone must have spent years digging all these up. I hope that some of these photos become availble as quality oversized prints.

We all know Eastwood mainly from the admirable characters he has played. I had never had more than a few glimpses of the actual human being. In many respects the actual man is as, or even more, impressive than the characters he has played. This should be a must-buy for anyone seriously interested in film or in the man behind so many great stories.

Clint Eastwood is an American institution. This book reveals a heretofore hidden dimension. Christmas shopping will be easy for me this year because half of it will be done in a massive purchase of this book.

I could not believe how good this book was, especially for the price. There are some great photos, and brilliant insight into the man, the actor, the director, the film-maker Clint Eastwood. Clint has been one of my all time favourite movie stars, I love his work, and thanks to this book, I can get a look at his work, get to see how he does the movies everyone loves. It is the closest thing we mere mortals can get to meeting Clint. So go ahead and make your day, it is a great book, I suggest you get a copy.

Clint's way of working as a director is very inspiring. To see his growth as a filmmaker/actor is very intriguing. The way he works with his crew, their decdication to him and to the movie as a whole is incredible. And because he is a actor he knows how to relate to the actors he works with which is a big plus.
I like the fact that the book doesn't go in the order of when he directed his movies, it jumps around and focuses on different aspects of film making and how he handles it. A great read!
