This humidifier does an excellent job of humidifying my 800 square foot apartment.

It has 2 one gallon water tanks. They are easy to refill and hold enough water for about 24 hours of continuous use.

This unit has filters to prevent the minerals in your tap water from becoming dust in your home. I've found that the filters are quite effective. I've been using my Slant-Fin for about 3 months now and haven't had to replace the filters because they rinse clean under a few minutes of very hot water.

This unit uses a combination of UV light and boiling to remove any living organisms (mold, mildew, bacteria, etc.) so that your home doesn't become a dangerous place. Many other humidifiers don't have the UV light feature, making them potentially less safe.

The one flaw that I've found in this humidifier is that the internal hygrometer doesn't work very well. I was under the impression that the unit would respond to ambient moisture by turning on and off as needed. Mine doesn't seem to do this very well. My remedy for this is just to turn it on every couple of days when the accurate hygrometer I have in my home indicates low humidity. Having too little or too much moisture in your home can be unhealthy, so I'd suggest that no matter which humidifier you purchase you also buy an accurate hygrometer.

Overall, I'm happy with the 2 gallon Slant-Fin. If the area you want to humidify is over 1000 square feet, you may want to purchase a higher volume model.

We've owned this product for over a year and run it in our sons' bedroom every night during heating season, and occasionally in the summer when we hit a dry spell. We have to, because the moisture keeps my 2-year-old's eczema at bay. I don't have to worry about my kids getting burned on it, it doesn't spew mold or white dust into the air, it's not an energy hog, it's easy to refill a tank, and it does not need daily cleaning. I empty it out twice a week and let it air dry. In our busy household with small children, there's no other humidifier we'd be able to manage running safely for months at a time!

Pros:

- Relatively easy to drain out water from the tanks

- I love the fact that it's almost germ-free

Cons:

- If I set the humidity setting higher than "9 O' Clock" position on the dial, I hear the sound of water boiling or gurgling all night long. If I set it low enough to prevent the gurgling noise, I don't get enough humidity in the room.

- I don't feel comfortable putting this in my 15-month-old baby's room because the base becomes considerably hot and the mist is hotter than I would consider safe for a curious toddler.
