5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Special Limited Edition Version
Outstanding early films by Barker show the embryonic form of many of his horror ideas. The limited edition (5000 copies) has silver lettering and contains a good interview with Barker about the making of these early films. Fascinating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enter the deep dark trenches of young Clive Barker's mind.
Once you get past the labels bizarre introduction, this is a look at 2 of Clive Barker's first amateur movies. Salome is an interpretation of an Oscar Wilde play. The Forbidden is an interpretation of the Faust legend and looks to be an inspiration for Hellraiser. A must see for Barker fans!

4.0 out of 5 stars INSPIRATION FOR ANY AMATURE FILMMAKER OF ANY GENRE., March 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Clive Barker's Salome & Forbidden [VHS] (VHS Tape)
WITH THE AMAZING ABILITY TO HAND PARTNERS AND DEAR FRIENDS A LOOSE INTERPRETATION OF VERY SEEMINGLY "HEAVY" MATERIAL. CLIVE BARKER MANAGES TO CONVINCE FILMMAKING FRIENDS INTO CAPTURING IDEAS AND IMAGES ONTO FILM. WITH NO SPOKEN WORDS THROUGH BOTH FEATURETTES,HE MUST RELY ON A HEVY FILM SCORE, WHICH AS A STAND ALONE COMPOSITION IS BRILLIANT. SOME VERY UNDER-USED BUT EXTREAMLY EFFECTIVE TECHNIQUES ARE USED THROUGHOUT THE FILM. INCLUDING BACK-LIGHTING TO HELP WITH THE "WE HAVE NO SENSE OF DEPTH" ISSUE, AND THE "FORBIDDEN" RAN BACK COMPLETELY IN THE NEGATIVE FORM WILL INSPIRE ANYONE WITH A CAMERA TO THINK OF IMAGES IN A DIFFERENT WAY. A SINCERE MUST FOR ANY BARKER FAN, AND A CONSIDERATION FOR ANYONE WITH THE APPRECIATION FOR IMAGERY.
