Not what I hoped., November 10, 2006
This review is from: Cloaks (Over the Edge) (Paperback)
I will start by saying that I am an avid fan of Over The Edge. In a world of dragon slaying, cybernetic, and "become the monster" role playing games this one is one of the more unique games out there. What I hoped Cloaks would be is more information on the equipment and fringe powers(called Shivs in this book) possessed by cloaks. These sections are very small and compete with a incongruent entry on astral entities that would have been better in a different book. The scenarios offered are not what I would call the best examples of an espinioge game. Little information is found here on the operatives of the various conspiracies on Al Amarja. It sort of promises information on groups like the CPC and the Earthlings but just gives you sample cloaks. The useful thing I did find was some basic advice on how to run a Cloaks game (tips on story structure, setting, ect.). I have read nearly all of the books in this series and can say (in my humble opinion) that you can get by without it. Yet if you want all the information printed for this game (for completeness) you may find some useful nuggets in the book.
